Today, we join the world in marking Menstrual Hygiene Day and reaffirming the importance of menstrual health, dignity, and education for every girl.

Across many rural communities in Nigeria, the lack of access to sanitary products and the spread of misinformation continue to affect girls’ confidence, personal hygiene, and education.

At One Tribe Initiative, we are not only teaching young girls in rural communities how to produce reusable sanitary pads, but also empowering young people to become agents of change within their communities by breaking harmful norms, challenging misinformation, and creating open conversations around menstrual health.

Through these efforts, young girls are helping to build communities where every girl can manage her period with dignity, confidence and support.

Under this year’s theme “Together for a Period Friendly World,” we must move beyond symbolic conversations and acknowledge this truth: you cannot invest in women’s health while ignoring menstrual health.

A period-friendly world means:
• Policies that protect dignity
• Schools and workplaces that support menstruating girls and women
• Access to accurate information, healthcare, water, sanitation, and menstrual products
• Breaking menstrual stigmas

Two NGOs, Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment (WISE) and One Tribe Initiative, have trained no fewer than 40 women in Kaduna on reusable sanitary pads production to enhance menstrual hygiene.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was part of activities lined up by the NGOs in preparation for Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed annually on May 28.👇

Dignity in Every Circle

Today marked the successful conclusion of the two days intensive training on Reusable Sanitary Pads production facilitated by One Tribe Initiative in partnership with Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment - WISE

Over the course of the training, women were equipped with practical knowledge and hands on skills aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene, consortium membership for sustainability.

Today, participants demonstrated the skills they had acquired and shared their experience. Beyond learning how to produce Reusable Sanitary Pads, the training fostered open conversations around menstrual health, dignity, and the importance of supporting girls and women with safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly hygiene solutions.

We celebrate every woman who participated, learned, and committed to becoming an advocate for menstrual health awareness in her community. Together, we are building healthier, stronger, and more informed communities where dignity and opportunity are accessible to all.
