Tyap Wikimedians User Group

Day 1 of the Wikipedia Outreach Programme is going on right now at the KASU Library, and we have over 30 participants in the room.

This is the first stream of the TWU KASU Library Hub training, organised by the Tyap Wikimedians User Group with Kaduna State University. The aim is to teach students how to edit Wikipedia, add to Wikidata and upload free media to Wikimedia Commons, so that KASU, Kaduna State and our local knowledge have a proper presence online.

This morning, Mr. Kuyet Musa Friday took the participants through the Wikimedia movement and open knowledge, how Wikipedia works, what counts as a reliable source, and how to edit responsibly. He also walked everyone through creating their accounts. Mr. Levi Kambai Timothy Akau is leading the practical sessions.

Special thanks to Dr. Khali Allahmagani, lecturer and librarian at KASU, for partnering with us.

It hasn't been smooth. We've had power cuts and trouble with internet access. But the participants stayed, stayed curious, and kept going, and that is what has made the day a success.

Day 2 starts tomorrow at 10:00am with Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
