Massive Transformation at Bakoko Erosion Site as Governor Otu Responds to Community’s Cry
Calabar, Nigeria – In what residents have described as a “long-overdue miracle,” the Bakoko erosion site in Calabar has undergone a dramatic transformation following the timely intervention of the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Prince Bassey Otu.
For years, the Bakoko area suffered from severe erosion, posing serious risks to lives, homes, and critical infrastructure. Repeated pleas from the community seemingly fell on deaf ears — until now.
Responding to the cries of the affected residents, Governor Otu initiated swift and strategic action to reclaim and rehabilitate the area. Today, the site stands as a symbol of renewal, safety, and hope.
“What we’re witnessing is unbelievable,” said one local resident. “We had almost given up, but Governor Otu listened and acted. He has changed our story because they was no access road , he pleaded the Governor should also intervene in other sites in Bakoko “
The intervention included advanced erosion control measures, drainage improvements, and land stabilization efforts. Local leaders have praised the governor’s proactive leadership and commitment to sustainable development.
This project is one of several environmental interventions under the current administration, signaling a renewed focus on infrastructure, safety, and environmental resilience across the state.
As the community celebrates, many are hopeful that this marks the beginning of broader and sustained development efforts across erosion-prone areas in Cross River.
