We warmly welcomed Be The Change Digital Advocates during the virtual onboarding session held on Thursday, bringing together a growing network of passionate young citizens committed to amplifying voices and advancing civic participation.

With up to 300 Digital Advocates joining the network, participants were introduced to their roles in promoting the Citizens’ Agenda National Consultation Survey, mobilising citizens to share their priorities, and supporting National Consultations ahead of the .

The onboarding marks the beginning of a collective journey to strengthen citizen participation and ensure that diverse voices are reflected in the Citizens’ Agenda 2027.

Together, we are building a network of informed, active and digitally empowered citizens ready to set the pace and advance citizen-led actions ahead of 2027 and beyond.

As commences, I call on global leaders to look beyond the corridors of power and listen to the voices of billions across the Global South.

The world is being transformed at unprecedented speed. Artificial Intelligence is disrupting how we work, learn, govern, communicate, create, and participate in society. It is opening extraordinary opportunities, but also creating new questions around jobs, inequality, digital rights, misinformation, privacy, governance, and access.

For the Global South, the revolution can not become another technological divide where solutions are designed elsewhere and communities are left to adapt. We must be active participants in shaping the rules, systems, and innovations that will define our collective future.

From Africa to Latin America and Asia, the Global South is not merely a recipient of technology or development solutions. We are innovators, problem-solvers, and co-creators.

UNGA81 must, therefore, be more than another diplomatic gathering. It must be a moment to renew global solidarity, strengthen multilateralism, and ensure that emerging technologies, particularly AI, advance human dignity, inclusion, and shared prosperity.

The future must be co-created, not dictated.

observed on 15 September every year, this year, iLEAD AFRICA, we reflect on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping how citizens participate, access information, engage institutions, and contribute to democratic processes.

AI presents opportunities to strengthen civic participation, improve access to public information, support citizen engagement, and make democratic institutions more responsive. At the same time, it raises important questions around misinformation, transparency, privacy, bias, accountability, and responsible governance.

To contribute to this conversation, We developed an AI for Democracy Policy Brief, exploring key opportunities and emerging challenges at the intersection of AI and democratic governance, while highlighting practical considerations for building inclusive, responsible, and citizen-centred AI systems.

We come together to review progress, assess ongoing projects, share updates, identify challenges, and develop practical solutions. The meeting also provides an opportunity for team members to exchange ideas, strengthen coordination, and ensure that everyone remains aligned with our organisational goals and priorities. Beyond reviewing tasks, we use this time to celebrate achievements, learn from experiences, and identify opportunities for improvement.
