At GS26, the session *Creativity That Pays: Expanding Pathways to Opportunity in Nigeria’s Creative Economy* explored what it takes to create more accessible pathways to finance and opportunity for Nigeria’s growing creative economy.

Maimuna Awwal Shehu, Deputy Manager, Bank of Industry, Abuja, shared insights on some of the barriers creative businesses face in accessing finance, and why Intellectual property is a critical asset for unlocking capital.

At GS26, the session, “From Budget Release to Last Mile Delivery: Securing Funding for Family Planning Commodities in KKG States,” convened by Invictus Africa (Invictus Africa) in collaboration with Policy Innovation Centre (Policy Innovation Centre (PIC)), the conversation focused on closing the gap between what is budgeted and what women can actually access.

With Dr. Aishatu Abubakar Sadiq, Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Health, and Dr. Kabiru Atta, Country Representative, EnGender Health, the discussion examined what it takes to strengthen funding, accountability and delivery of family planning commodities across KKG States.

Moderated by Bukky Shonibare (Bukky Shonibare), Executive Director, Invictus Africa, the session brought a critical reminder to the fore: funding must translate into access, and commitments must reach the last mile.

At GS26, the conversation on The National Dialogue on Transforming Gender Norms for Adolescents’ Health and Well-being explored what it takes to move beyond evidence and turn what we know into action particularly when it comes to education, women’s empowerment and preventing gender-based violence.

The session was Chaired by Dr. Iziaq Adekunle-Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare; with insights from Boladé Akinkolapo, Country Director, Girl Effect Nigeria; Dr. Aishatu Abubakar Sadiq, Consultant Medical Epidemiologist and Reproductive Health Specialist, Mrs Fifi Oluwatoyin Ogbondeminu, Global Project Director, A360, Population Services International and Dr Ejike Oji, National Chairman of the Association for the Advancement of Family Planning in Nigeria

At GS26, the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) convened the National Dialogue on Advancing Gender Equity in Academic Economics Across Nigerian Universities, bringing together university leaders, academics, policymakers, gender experts, and development partners to examine the systemic barriers limiting women’s progression in academic economics.

At the heart of the conversation was SWOLE, a PIC initiative supported by (Co-Impact), focused on tackling the structural barriers that prevent women in academic economics from advancing, while strengthening the policies, support systems, and pathways that enable them to thrive and take on leadership roles.

The dialogue featured perspectives from across Nigeria’s higher education landscape, including Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale (Kayode Oyebode Adebowale), Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan(University of Ibadan 🔵); Prof. Peter Olamakinde Olapegba (Peter Olamakinde Olapegba), Vice-Chancellor-Designate, University of Ibadan; Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri (University of Maiduguri); Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth Ementa Ichoku, Vice-Chancellor, Veritas University Abuja (Veritas University Abuja); Prof. Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos; and Her Excellency, Amb. Dr. Safiya Ahmad Nuhu, Director, Centre for Gender Studies, Bayero University (), Kano and was moderated by Adekemi Omole(Adekemi Omole), Associate Director, Programs, PIC.

Together, the conversation reinforced the importance of creating more inclusive systems that support academic progression, institutional change, and women’s leadership across Nigeria’s higher education institutions.

The GS26 Academic Conference opened with a clear call to move evidence beyond the academic space and closer to the people it is meant to serve.

Bringing together researchers, academics, graduate scholars, innovators and faculty, the conference featured a keynote address by Mr. Gabriel Okeowo, alongside conversations on how evidence can move from research into meaningful action.

The conference set the foundation for the summit’s journey from evidence to agenda setting, co-creation, commitment-making and implementation, exploring not just what the evidence tells us, but what it will take to connect that evidence to the people and communities it is meant to serve.

At GS26, Dr. Salma Anas-Ibrahim (Salma Ibrahim Anas), Special Adviser to the President on Health, joined the Evidence to Action for Perimenopause in Nigeria conversation, which explored how Nigeria can strengthen primary healthcare and deliver more responsive health services for women across perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause.

Moderated by Comfort Booth(Hauwa Booth), the session highlighted women’s lived experiences and the importance of translating evidence into policies and health services that respond to women’s needs across the life course, particularly during the menopausal transition.
