A Brief History of Menstrual Hygiene Day!!!
Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) is observed globally every May 28th to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation.
The date was chosen symbolicallyβMay 28 represents the average 28-day menstrual cycle, while the 5th monthsignifies the typical 5-7 days of menstruation.
Since its launch, MHD has gained tremendous support, with over 270 global partners, including NGOs, governments, and health organizations, joining the movement.
Purpose & Goals of MHD include:
-Eliminate stigma and shame around menstruation.
-Improve access to safe menstrual products, sanitation, and education.
-Advocate for policies that support menstrual health rights.
Global Impact include :
-Campaigns focus on education, sustainable solutions (e.g., reusable pads), and gender equality.
-Countries like India, Kenya, and the UKhave introduced policies providing free menstrual products in schools.
This yearβs celebration was graced by several institutions, including:
