International Alert (Alert) is one of the world’s leading peacebuilding organisations, with nearly 30 years of experience in helping people find peaceful solutions to conflict. We work with local people in over 25 countries around the world to help them build peace, and we advise governments, organisations and companies on how to support peace. We believe peace is possible when people can live in

safety, have fair and effective laws, participate in shaping political decisions, make a decent living and secure their wellbeing. We help young politicians to play a positive role in supporting peace and equality for all Sri Lankans. We ensure that development organisations are sensitive to the impact that their funding has on the complex context in the country. We also promote the positive role that people in the diaspora can play in reconciliation, both in their own communities and in Sri Lanka. Our work is important because after nearly 30 years of conflict in Sri Lanka, more than a generation of Sri Lankans have grown up with no real experience of peace.
