For more than a decade, Sri Lanka has been without elected Provincial Councils, raising concerns about representative governance, democratic accountability, and the effective functioning of the country's devolved system of government.

CMEV reiterates the importance of holding Provincial Council Elections without further undue delay. Addressing the remaining legal and procedural challenges, while setting out a clear and credible roadmap for elections, is essential to safeguarding the democratic rights of citizens and strengthening constitutional governance.

Speaking to the media alongside several election observation organizations, CMEV Co-Convener Dr. Pakiyasothy Saravanamuttu stressed that prolonged delays risk undermining public confidence in democratic institutions, adding that it is time to restore elected Provincial Councils and renew democratic representation at the provincial level.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) extends its sincere congratulations to the newly elected Executive Council of the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), following the successful conclusion of its General Assembly in Bangkok.

We warmly congratulate Chairperson Gopal Krishna Siwakoti, Vice Chairperson Elberel Davaa, Secretary-General Atty. Rona Ann V. Caritos, and all newly elected Executive Council members, and wish them every success as they guide ANFREL through the next phase of its important work in advancing democratic governance and electoral integrity across Asia.

CMEV also takes this opportunity to acknowledge and thank outgoing Chairperson Rohana Hettiarachchi ( PAFFREL -Sri Lanka), the Executive Council, and the ANFREL Secretariat for their dedication, leadership, and service during a period marked by significant democratic challenges and opportunities throughout the region.

As one of ANFREL's longstanding member organizations, CMEV deeply values its enduring partnership with the network and the solidarity it has fostered among election observers, democracy advocates, and civil society organizations across Asia. Over the years, this collaboration has contributed significantly to strengthening electoral observation, democratic participation, and regional cooperation.

At a time when democratic institutions across Asia face increasingly complex challenges, the role of regional networks such as ANFREL remains more important than ever. CMEV looks forward to continuing to work closely with the newly elected Executive Council, ANFREL members, and partners across the region in advancing credible elections, democratic resilience, and electoral integrity for all.

මෙවර පළාත් පාලන ඡන්දය මැයි මස 06 වැනිදා පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත අතර ඡන්දය සඳහා දිවයින පුරා මධ්‍යස්ථාන 13,759ක් හරහා පළාත් පාලන ආයතන 339ක් සඳහා සභිකයින් 8,287ක් තෝරා පත්කර ගැනීමේ ඡන්ද විමසීම හෙට උදෑසන 7.00ට ආරම්භ විමට නියමිය. 2025 මැයි මාසයේදී පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත පළාත් පාලන මැතිවරණය වඩාත්ම වැදගත් වන්නේ ප්‍රාදේශීය මට්ටමේ අවශ්‍යතා කළමනාකරණය කරගැනීම සඳහායි. එහෙත් මේ වන විට අපට පෙනෙන්නට තිබෙන්නේ එය මට්ටමේ මැතිවරණයක මුහුණුවර ගෙන ඇති බවයි.
