The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights is an Italian not-for-profit foundation (ONLUS) acknowledged by a Decree of the President of the Republic of Italy, dedicated to education, training and research in the fields of international and comparative criminal justice and human rights. It is also a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) recognized by a Decree Law of th
e Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For more than 45 years it has been a major contributor to the development of more effective criminal justice systems worldwide, and in the strengthening of respect for human rights and the Rule of Law. Until 2017 it was known as "International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences" (ISISC). Established in Siracusa (Italy) on September 1972 by the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP/IAPL – the largest and oldest association of scholars and professors in the field of criminal law), in cooperation with the City, Province, and Chamber of Commerce of Siracusa, it enjoys special consultative status with the United Nations and the Council of Europe. The Siracusa Institute has also a special cooperation agreement with the United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV), and it is one of the nineteen organizations comprising the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network. The Network assists the United Nations Programme and interested Member States in strengthening international cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice. Throughout its history, the Siracusa International Institute has organized 720 conferences, training and educational seminars and meetings of experts attended by more than 61,000 judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers and related practitioners from more than 172 countries from the Mediterranean region and beyond and 497 universities. It has also collaborated with 52 intergovernmental organizations, numerous Italian and foreign governmental bodies, 70 non-governmental organizations and 68 civil society organizations worldwide These activities have resulted in 151 published volumes of scholarly and scientific research, as well as conference proceedings relating to international criminal justice, comparative criminal law, human rights and country-specific issues of criminal law and procedure. These publications are in English, Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic and Dari. The Siracusa Institute’s publications in Arabic are considered the leading texts in the fields of human rights and international criminal law.

The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights è una fondazione italiana non a scopo di lucro (ONLUS) riconosciuta con Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica, che si occupa dello studio, della ricerca e della formazione nel campo della giustizia penale internazionale e comparata e dei diritti umani. E’ inoltre una Organizzazione Non Governativa (ONG) riconosciuta con Decreto del Ministero degli Affari Esteri. Per oltre 45 anni, l'Istituto ha contribuito notevolmente allo sviluppo della giustizia penale a livello mondiale, aumentando il rispetto e l’applicazione del principio di legalità e dei diritti umani. Fino al 2017 l'Istituto si chiamava "Istituto Superiore Internazionale di Scienze Criminali" (ISISC). Fondato a Siracusa (Italia) nel Settembre del 1972 dall’Associazione Internazionale di Diritto Penale (AIDP - la più antica e prestigiosa associazione di esperti e professori nel campo del diritto penale), in collaborazione con Città, Provincia e Camera di Commercio di Siracusa, l’Istituto gode di status consultivo speciale presso le Nazioni Unite e il Consiglio d’Europa. L’Istituto ha inoltre firmato uno speciale accordo di collaborazione con l’Ufficio delle Nazioni Unite a Vienna (UNOV), e costituisce uno dei diciannove centri di ricerca e studio del Programma per la Prevenzione del Crimine e la Giustizia Penale delle Nazioni Unite, istituito al fine di assistere gli Stati membri dell'ONU nell’opera di rafforzamento della cooperazione internazionale in materia penale. Dall'anno della sua fondazione, l'Istituto ha 720 conferenze, seminari d'esperti e meeting di vario genere, coinvolgendo circa 61.000 giuristi, magistrati, procuratori, ricercatori, studiosi, docenti, funzionari di governo e rappresentanti di Istituzioni nazionali e internazionali provenienti da 172 paesi del mondo. L’Istituto ha inoltrepubblicato 151 volumi che riflettono le sue attività di ricerca e di studio e contengono gli atti dei suoi convegni in materia di giustizia penale internazionale, di diritto penale comparato, di diritti umani e di diritto e procedura penale specifici di un determinato paese. Queste pubblicazioni sono in inglese, italiano, francese, spagnolo, arabo e dari. In particolare, le pubblicazioni in lingua araba sono considerati testi leader nel settore dei diritti umani e del diritto penale internazionale.
