Nearly 72,000 children in Gaza have been orphaned during three years of Israel’s war on the Strip, while more than 64,000 women have been widowed, according to figures released by Gaza’s Ministry of Social Development on Wednesday.

The ministry said in a statement marking three years since the start of the war that the prolonged violence had created a deep humanitarian and social crisis affecting children, widows, older people, people with disabilities and impoverished families.

It said 71,846 children had been orphaned, warning that they face growing risks of poverty, dropping out of school, exploitation and neglect.

The ministry put the number of widows at 64,413, while the number of female-headed households had risen to around 86,000.

It also said 118,876 older people were living in Gaza, many struggling to access medication, healthcare and adequate shelter.

According to the ministry, 16,963 people with disabilities were also living in the Strip, in addition to thousands of people injured or left with amputations who require rehabilitation and prosthetic limbs.

The ministry said 258,927 displaced families were living in 2,090 shelters across Gaza.

More than 1.2 million people were facing crisis-level or worse food insecurity, while 530,000 families had been registered on the national aid system, it added.

📣 International Peace Bureau Awards 2026 Seán MacBride Peace Prize to Freedom Flotilla Coalition, Global Sumud Flotilla, and Nuestra América Convoy

Berlin, 2 October 2026 — The International Peace Bureau (IPB) is pleased to announce that the 2026 Seán MacBride Peace Prize has been awarded jointly to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, Global Sumud Flotilla, and Nuestra América Convoy, in recognition of their international solidarity efforts in support of the people of Palestine and Cuba.

The annual prize recognises outstanding contributions to peace, disarmament and human rights. This year's award honours initiatives that mobilise people across borders to challenge blockades, draw attention to their humanitarian consequences, and demonstrate the power of international solidarity.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Global Sumud Flotilla have organised civilian-led initiatives seeking to challenge Israel's blockade of Gaza and bring humanitarian assistance to Palestinians. The Nuestra América Convoy has brought international attention to the humanitarian impact of the US blockade of Cuba through a campaign of solidarity and the delivery of essential goods and medical care.

By awarding the 2026 prize jointly to these three initiatives, the IPB recognises the role of grassroots mobilisation and international solidarity in advancing peace and human rights.

Four Palestinians were killed and several others injured on Wednesday in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire across the Gaza Strip, amid continued attacks in multiple areas.

Two Palestinians, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed Abu Alwan, from Rafah, and 33-year-old Osama Khaled Mohammed Abu Khater, were killed when an Israeli drone struck a vehicle in northern al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

In central Gaza, Noura Aouni Diab died from injuries sustained after being shot by Israeli forces in Bureij refugee camp.

In Gaza City, Adham Sobhi Ziyara succumbed to injuries sustained when an Israeli strike hit a group of Palestinians on al-Nafaq Street. Several others were also injured in an Israeli airstrike near Tamraz Station in the same area.

Israeli forces also opened fire east of Beit Lahia Project in northern Gaza.

In southern Gaza, a Palestinian was critically injured by Israeli gunfire in the al-Badaw area of western al-Satar, north of Khan Younis. Israeli forces also carried out a demolition operation northeast of Khan Younis, accompanied by heavy tank fire.

Israeli artillery also shelled areas east of Khan Younis, while Israeli tanks opened fire east of the city.

In central Gaza, Israeli tanks opened heavy fire east of Bureij refugee camp, accompanied by artillery shelling in the area.

Palestine needs more than our thoughts and prayers to end an ongoing genocide.

Faith is defined in the dictionary as a commitment to keep a promise, or a firm and fervent adherence of the mind to something. That is why we call on all religious leaders—as representatives of faith—to join us in our efforts to challenge Israel's illegal blockade of Gaza.

We call on all traditions who believe that faith requires more than words to stand with us for Palestinians' rights to dignity, freedom and self-determination.

Kraft can’t sanitize his pro-gen0cide record with a $2 million check that wasn’t even pledged to Palestinians, but rather to “the region.” Even if it was, Palestine is NOT a charity case. Yes, Palestinians are in desperate need of humanitarian aid, but more than that, Palestinians need an end to the deliberate policies that leave them in need of aid. Palestinians demand freedom, justice and accountability. Palestine needs our solidarity in ACTION !

It was a tough night in Gaza, with Palestinians describing it as a night of war as Israeli fighter jets bombed several locations across the Strip, Israeli quadcopters opened fire toward buildings and residents, and artillery and tank fire continued through the night.

In Gaza City, three Palestinians were injured early Tuesday when an Israeli airstrike hit a home belonging to the Karim family in the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood, according to local sources. Israeli military vehicles also opened heavy fire east of Al-Tuffah and northwest of Gaza City, while Israeli artillery shelled areas east of the city.

Israeli warships also opened fire toward Gaza’s coastline.
In northern Gaza, Israeli forces carried out a large demolition operation northwest of Beit Lahia, while a Palestinian woman was injured by Israeli gunfire near the Abu Sharakh roundabout in Jabalia.

In the south, Israeli tanks fired several shells east of Khan Younis, while Israeli military vehicles opened heavy fire south of the city. Israeli helicopter gunfire was also reported east of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.

Israeli forces also carried out a large-scale demolition operation south of Khan Younis, while in central Gaza, military vehicles opened fire east of Bureij refugee camp.

The overnight attacks came after Israeli fire killed three Palestinians and injured 11 others across Gaza on Monday, according to Palestinian medical sources. The dead included a child and a woman, while those wounded were hit by Israeli gunfire and shelling in several areas, including Khan Younis and Bureij.

The attacks are the latest in a continued pattern of Israeli military operations across Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement that took effect in October 2025. Since then, at least 1,394 Palestinians have been killed and 4,839 injured since the ceasefire began.
