European Coordination Let's Liberate Diversity

The European Coordination Let’s Liberate Diversity! is a nonprofit organization focused on managing seed diversity.

It connects 22 members, 170 organizations in 21 European countries, and works with 15,000 farmers to conserve 40,000 plant varieties Our main goal is to BRING BACK DIVERSITY

in our food systems in a socially and economically sustainable way through the whole food chain. The diversification can be achieved linking the work of different actors involved, supporting and promoting their knowledge and actions associated to cultivated biodiversity. To achieved this Vision, in many years of activity, EC-LLD has found that it is essential to have a platform that promotes the exchange and sharing of experiences/viewpoints/policies, in order to foster local actions and activities. The proposed methodology is a horizontal approach to training and knowledge sharing. In this way there is a horizontal exchange between the different actors who bring their knowledge and share it, going beyond the top-down approach.

Municipalities and regions across Europe want to build more resilient, diverse food systems, but where do you start when cultivated biodiversity isn’t yet part of your food strategy? 🤔

This policy brief gives policymakers a concrete framework: what actions to take, at which governance level, and how to embed locally adapted seeds and cultivated biodiversity into existing food policies, or those just getting started.

Built on four years of Living Lab work across Europe and the outcomes of the 2025 Granollers Symposium, it offers options suited to different stages of policy development, from early-stage strategies to well-established ones.

🔎 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:
✅ Integrate the right to food into EU legislation, recognising cultivated biodiversity as one of its components
✅ Embed organic and biodiversity-based criteria into EU public procurement reform
✅ Use territorial food system approaches to connect urban consumption with rural production
✅ Engage municipalities and regions as active players, with the LiveSeeding Manual as a practical starting point
✅ Build alliances across governance levels and with civil society already working in this space
