Funding body: INTERREG NEXT MED 2021โ2027 Programme (Specific Objective 2.3 โ Access to water and sustainable water management).
Funding Amount: the total budget is 2.745.200,00 โฌ, co-financing by the EU (89%) for 2.443.228 โฌ.
The project addresses one of the Mediterraneanโs most pressing challenges: water scarcity caused by climate change, drought, and population growth, which threatens both ecosystems and agricultural productivity.
SWAMED aims to co-design a water monitoring and management system for irrigated agriculture, adaptable to local conditions through a multi-stakeholder approach. The system will be tested in four pilot sites located in Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt, and Greece, engaging farmers, water authorities, and research institutions.

Main Activities and Expected Outcomes:
SWAMED will deliver:
โข A Decision Support System (DSS) for efficient irrigation;
โข Pilot implementation and testing in four countries;
โข Training and stakeholder engagement through surveys, workshops, and focus groups;
โข Communication outputs including videos and outreach materials;
โข A sustainability and exploitation plan for future adoption and scaling up.
