Reimagining Doeguling

At the request of Ngawang Tsultrim-la and his team, residents of Dhondenling, Tibetan Settlement, Karnataka Kollegal (U Village), RDTS Water Chair Tenzin Thakpo and Water Committee member Ven. Zomyig visited Dhondenling from 8–10 April.

The team met residents at the community hall (Chikhang) to discuss the acute water shortages affecting most households and conducted a field survey of the village and nearby areas.

They also met AEO Jamyang-la to seek his guidance and understand the administrative perspective.

As a grassroots, community-driven initiative of Doeguling, RDTS was privileged to share its experiences and present practical, low-cost rainwater conservation models, which were discussed with the community.

On 13th April 2026, RDTS staff had the honor of welcoming Mrs. Tsering Youdon la, Additional Secretary of Home, CTA, to the RDTS Office. During her visit, the team was privileged to brief her on key initiatives undertaken to sustain the Doeguling Settlement, including rainwater harvesting, borewell and farm pond projects, as well as health awareness and service programs. The interaction provided an invaluable opportunity to share the ongoing efforts and reaffirm RDTS’s commitment to community resilience and well-being.

RDTS had the privilege of welcoming Research Scholar Ms. Ashwathy Viswanathan from IIT Madras to Doeguling from 23rd to 27th March.

During her visit, we shared the rich history of Doeguling and coordinated her interactions with several NGOs and community institutions, including the Tibetan Women’s Association, Co-operative Society, Old People’s Home, Jangchup Choeling Nunnery, Sambhota Main School, and many others.

We hope this engagement provides her with meaningful insights and valuable exposure for her ongoing research study.

RDTS extends heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Representative Office Bangalore , and the Tibetan Settlement Office, Mundgod , for their invaluable support and guidance in making her visit both possible and impactful.

The RDTS staffs, together with the teachers of Hungun Government School, felt deeply honored and blessed to receive the life blessings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. On this occasion, an appreciation letter was offered in recognition of RDTS’s intervention to mitigate water scarcity through the construction of a Rainwater Harvesting Project at the school.

On November 26, 2025, Reimagining Doeguling, through its Health Chair Dr. Dhondup Tashi la, conducted a health awareness talk at Doeguling LHAKAR Gorshe gathering focusing on the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases. During the Reimagining Doeguling Executive General Board Meeting, the venerable Khenpo of the monasteries emphasized and prioritized the importance of organizing a comprehensive health awareness campaign for both the monastic community and the lay residents of the settlement.
