Sarthak Foundation Educating children from economically weaker sections in slums and villages. Our programmes: Yellow Rooms, YellowSLATEs and RTI Sarthak Gurukul.

We are a Registered Society with FCRA, 12A and 80G (Income Tax Exemption) Sarthak Foundation started in 2013 when an incident involving little children living in a Lucknow urban slum exposed Kshama, the Founder of Sarthak, to extreme hunger and abject poverty, somethings that are so pervasive and rampant that they have become part of the landscape and we don’t notice them even when they are right in front of us. She thought that imparting education was the only tool capable of bringing sustained changes in the lives of these children so she went with a slate and started teaching the children. What started with 6 children under a tree is today an organized, data centric and well managed non-profit running three long term, deep, immersive and impactful projects impacting more than 14,000 children directly and 56,000 people indirectly. Sarthak Foundation started with the belief that no child should be left behind for being born in economic and social disadvantage. With a vision to have Happy Empowered Children, Sarthak Foundation reaches out to children to make them self-sustainable through education, socio-emotional strengthening and skills so that they are able to break out of abject poverty. Sarthak Foundation is a registered non-profit working in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. We are registered as a society and have 80G and 12A certificates under the Income Tax Act that validate our status as a non-profit. We also have the FCRA certification that allows us to accept foreign donations from outside of India.

A LITTLE THANK YOU TO YELLOW ROOMS

As part of the 7 Days of Gratitude activity, children were invited to choose someone or something they were grateful for.

Many children chose Yellow Rooms. In one of the shared clips, a girl expressed her gratitude for the place where she learns, plays, grows and feels cared for.

A simple choice that shows how much Yellow Rooms means to the children who are part of it.

On her way to Yellow Rooms, our Educator spotted these three girls, all part of Yellow Rooms, walking home after school and offered them a lift.

The journey turned into a few minutes of laughter, smiles and cheerful conversations.

Every day of learning brings them one step closer to their dreams.

DEAR ME, THANK YOU

The 7 Days of Gratitude continued at Sarthak.

On Day 2, older children at our Yellow Rooms, Yellow SLATEs and Gurukul took part in Dear Me, Thank You, taking a moment to recognise something about themselves they are grateful for.

They reflected on their qualities, strengths, efforts and growth, and completed the thought, “Dear Me, I am grateful for you because...”

A moment to pause, look within and recognise the things that make each of us who we are. Because sometimes, we remember to thank everyone around us, but forget to thank ourselves.

For over a decade, Ms. Aysha Khalid from Shalimar Corp Limited has been part of Sarthak’s journey, with Shalimar supporting our Yellow Rooms and helping children access education and opportunities to learn and grow.

During her visit to Yellow Rooms, Ms. Aysha spent time interacting with the children, getting to know their experiences at Yellow Rooms. The children eagerly shared puzzles, showcased their talents and spoke about what they learn. The children were happy to spend time with her.

We are grateful for this long standing association and continued support for children.

GROWING UP STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING

At RTI Sarthak Gurukul, children in rural communities are learning about hormonal changes, menstruation, menstrual hygiene and healthy habits.

In villages where conversations around these topics can often feel difficult, creating a safe space to ask questions and learn helps children grow with knowledge, confidence and dignity.

Parents Teacher Meetings at Yellow Rooms are evolving beyond discussions around education. These gatherings are helping families become more aware of government entitlements, welfare schemes, and support systems available for children and households in the community.

Through regular interactions, parents are gaining important information related to education, health, identity documents, and other public services that can positively impact their lives.
