🤝 A New Partnership for Safer Infrastructure

A significant milestone for road safety and infrastructure in India!

The International Road Federation – India Chapter (IRF-IC) and the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (ICEMA) have formally signed an MoU at Bauma ConExpo India 2026, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership focused on advancing safety across the infrastructure ecosystem.

The MoU was signed by Mr. K. K. Kapila, Founder President, IRF-IC and Mr. Jaideep Shekhar, Convener – Strategic Partnership Panel, ICEMA & Managing Director, Terex India Pvt. Ltd.

This collaboration brings together expertise from the road safety and construction equipment sectors to promote:

🔹 Safer infrastructure development and construction practices
🔹 Work-zone and construction-site safety
🔹 Knowledge sharing and capacity building
🔹 Technology and innovation for safer roads
🔹 Industry engagement and road safety awareness

Every child deserves a safe journey to and from school. At the International Road Federation – India Chapter (IRF-IC), we are working to make school zones safer through a comprehensive, action-oriented approach.

Our School Zone Safety Programme focuses on:
🔹 School Zone Safety Audits – identifying road safety risks and deficiencies
🔹 Safety Monitoring Portal – measuring and tracking safety through a 0–100 scorecard
🔹 Engineering Improvements – safer crossings, markings, signage, traffic calming and more
🔹 Capacity Building – developing trained and certified School Zone Safety Auditors
🔹 Awareness & Education – building a culture of road safety among children and communities

Road safety must begin before the delivery journey starts. 🛵🪖

At the National Symposium on Safety, Training and Regulation of Powered Two-Wheeler Delivery Riders at INSTITUTE OF ROAD TRAFFIC EDUCATION, held on 9 September 2026, Shri K. K. Kapila, Founder President, IRF India Chapter, participated in the Third Technical Session: “The Way Forward – Policy & Regulatory Recommendations.”

Emphasising the need for a comprehensive, rider-centric approach to delivery safety, he highlighted the following priorities:

🔹 Helmet compliance:Two-wheelers should not start unless the rider is wearing a helmet.
🔹 Affordable safety:GST on helmets should be removed to make essential protective equipment more accessible.
🔹 Vehicle fitness:Periodic maintenance and a digital record of vehicle fitness should be mandatory.
🔹 Fatigue management: Delivery riders should have mandatory rest intervals, with employers prohibited from imposing unsafe delivery targets.
🔹 Safer technology: Delivery apps should include voice-based navigation to reduce distraction while riding.
🔹 Rider verification: Driving licence and vehicle registration must be verified before onboarding and periodically thereafter.
🔹 Serious violations: Repeat and serious traffic violations should be systematically monitored and acted upon.
🔹 Emergency response: A one-tap SOS facility should be available to riders for immediate assistance.

“The objective should not be merely faster deliveries, but safer journeys and safer livelihoods.”

The session reinforced that road safety is a shared responsibility of riders, employers, technology platforms, vehicle manufacturers and regulators.

A safer delivery ecosystem requires stronger standards, responsible business practices and technology that puts human life first.

GRIS 2027 Preparations Gather Momentum in Delhi

The 3rd Office Bearers Meeting and the 1st Joint Meeting of the Organizing & Technical Committee for GRIS 2027 were held in Delhi on Saturday, 22 August 2026, marking an important step forward in preparations for the upcoming conference.

🔹 3rd Office Bearers Meeting
The meeting reviewed key organizational priorities, including membership growth, IRF-IC compliances, ongoing projects, financial performance, the GRIS 2027 update, institutional initiatives, police training programmes, School Zone Safety Programmes, and other strategic matters.

🔹 1st Joint Meeting – Organizing & Technical Committee, GRIS 2027
The joint committee meeting focused specifically on the planning and ex*****on of GRIS 2027, including the technical programme, speakers and paper selection, poster presentations, exhibition planning, budget, awards, promotional activities and the proposed CEO’s Session.

The discussions reflected a shared commitment to delivering a high-impact platform for road infrastructure, innovation, technology and safer mobility.

The next Office Bearers Meeting will be held in Mumbai on 18 September 2026, where the team will continue reviewing progress and taking forward key organizational priorities.
