Jalandhar’s Wariana is home to one of the most dangerous and neglected dumpsites. With a 50-meter-high toxic landfill, the dumpsite holds over 2 million tonnes of legacy waste, causing a host of public health issues.

साफ माँ सरयू सप्ताह का पहला दिन

Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group और SBI Foundation के सहयोग से आयोजित इस कार्यक्रम में घाट पर स्थानीय लोग एकत्र हुए। सबने माँ सरयू को बचाने और शुद्ध रखने का संकल्प लिया।

लोगों ने घाट पर लगे QR कोड स्कैन किए— माँ सरयू का इतिहास, भजन और नदी के रोचक तथ्य जाने, संरक्षण पर गहन चर्चा हुई औरविचारों का आदान-प्रदान हुआ।

शानदार शुरुआत के लिए सभी का आभार!

Thanks to the AVPN Lighthouse Award, Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group and Seeds Technical Services a game-changing climate-health initiative in Dakshinpuri. Beyond cool roofs, we're innovating low-cost retrofits for wet bulb extremes, linking primary healthcare, and building community capacity to prevent heat stress and access care.

Our colleague Kunal visited the Bandhwari landfill fire site, Gurugram and witnessed the crisis firsthand. Smoke filled the air as fire brigades worked to contain the blaze.

A massive fire broke out at the Bandhwari landfill in Gurgaon-Faridabad.

This is not surprising — it reflects the reality of poor waste segregation and the lack of decentralised zero-waste systems everywhere in the NCR, including Gurgaon.

Gurugram generates over 1,200 tonnes of waste daily, with nearly 2,000 tonnes reaching Bandhwari from Gurugram and Faridabad combined, most of it unsegregated.

Some residential communities have adopted excellent zero-waste practices. Sadly, these practices are not universal, as they should be.

Until segregation, local composting, and decentralised waste management become universal, such fires will continue, poisoning the air across the airshed.

Luckily, the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 lean towards decentralization. They need to be taken seriously if we need to breathe easy.
