When I first joined the One All Fellowship, I had many doubts.
Will I be able to do this? Will I connect with the community?

But One All gave me a safe space to learn and grow.

Through this journey, I stepped out of my comfort zone — engaging with communities, listening to people’s stories, and understanding their challenges. Along the way, my communication, leadership, and teamwork skills grew stronger.

Today, I stand at a special turning point.
From being a Fellow, I have now become a Facilitator.

Now I guide fellows, support their journeys, and help them grow — just like someone once supported me.

This experience taught me that when we use opportunities well, they can truly change our lives.

And for me, this is just the beginning. 🌱

Yamini: Finding Her Voice!

Growing up in the fishing community of Pattinampakkam, Yamini was often labeled "slow" due to her struggles with verbal expression. Constant comparisons to her sister’s academic strengths deeply affected her confidence. When she joined our Community Impact for Women Fellowship, her first instinct was often to say "Mudhiille" - I can't do it.

But with the support of her peers, she chose to take risks. Today, the girl who once struggled to speak is a leader taking initiative:
Leading beach clean-ups so children can play safely.
Advocating for the safety of adolescent girls with community leaders.
Pursuing her dream of becoming a chef.

Yamini is no longer defined by labels; she is defined by her voice.

Deepan: Learning to Stand for Equality
Growing Up Unequal
Deepan joined One All when he was in 6th standard. Growing up in a fishing community, gender disparity was normalised at home. When his sister reached puberty, she stayed back after school to take care of household chores. At the time, Deepan never questioned this — it felt like a natural part of life.

A Shift in Perspective
After completing the Year 3 curriculum focused on gender, Deepan began to reflect differently. He realised the unfairness his sister faced and shared, “I thought my sister was just lazy and wanted to stay at home. Now I want to bring her to the sessions because she should receive what I am getting here.” He went on to speak with his parents, encouraging them to allow his sister the opportunity to step outside and access the same exposure he had.

Championing Opportunities
Now a second-year college student, Deepan actively encourages girls in his community — including school dropouts — to apply for the Community Impact Fellowship for Women. Having experienced the transformative impact of Ultimate Frisbee in his own life, he strongly believes girls deserve the same opportunities to grow, learn, and lead.
