A 501c3 Not-for Profit charity focusing on the role of the arts in the lives & learning of disadvantaged public school children, TimeIn puts opera + art + gallery hops into the normal school day. Founded in 2006, TI is committed to the idea that life-long learners emerge not from punitive time outs, but from true participation in the world around them. An introduction to high art aesthetics with a

5:1 student/teacher ratio, TI alternates 3 trimester-long studies of operas through hands-on art with gallery/museum visits. TI is proud to have changed the vistas of more than 3,000 3K-5th graders since its debut, and to continue its efforts as a formidable advocate for educational change through artistic enrichment in communities where children are subject to debilitating academic and social inequities.

One of my favorite images of The Time In Children's Arts Initiative at 's show, at the time I think it was at Paula Cooper Gallery. The kids were over the moon about this.

One of my kids is in a homeless shelter right now about 10 days away from having a baby. If the spirit moves you to help us help her, please donate at https://www.timeinkids.org/donate. I want to make sure her baby has warm clothes and blankets and diapers, etc. Especially warm clothes and blankets.

My grandmother had a baby before my dad. Apparently she was absolutely beautiful. But they were very poor and living in terrible conditions. She died of pneumonia as an infant.

Your help would be so appreciated. We'll send baby pix to anyone who donates. He's due on May 1. So the time to start building up the supplies she needs is right now. ###

Just because kids are growing up, doesn’t mean the work ends.

The fact that we were in kids’ lives and their families’ lives for years. . . And that they - and their families - were in OUR families’ lives is something very special and very rare.

Time In has always been a family. But what that means is that - just like your family and in mine - we have to keep transforming and meet the situations at hand as they arise.

Right now we have some very serious family stuff on our plate and we need your help: We need to support kids we’ve known for years who may be in danger, to continue to encourage kids in their passions and help them find the connections, training and support they need to use the skills we taught them when they were little; to preserve the legacy and teaching materials of Time In because some day the book banning era will end and we will go back to understanding that it’s not DEI as an acronym that is important, but the Equity in Education and the Opportunity that kids living in seriously disadvantaged are routinely deprived of that is so immensely vital to our success as a society and as a country.

Realizing that there are only 3 days left before 2025 ends, I hope I can ask you to help us sustain Time In’s incredible work in 2026. We have some unanticipated challenges and with your help we will meet them! I look forward to sharing how your contribution is going to change lives!

You can donate to us directly at https://www.timeinkids.org/donate.

So many thanks for thinking of our kids and for staying, year after year, on their team.

My past life! About to receive an award for my work with The Time In Children's Arts Initiative which is great, but now is the time to really publicize the work. In the face of massive discrimination and suppression, it is so vital for America to understand that its strength lies precisely in the communities it is destroying. We need to go in the opposite direction. This is not about DEI, it is about INTELLIGENCE. Understand the resources at hand. Right here, in our poorest communities, are our most valuable resources. Develop them! Care for them.

Watch the documentary piece that and I worked on last year. https://www.timeinkids.org/the-art-of-change Be aware. Speak loudly.

So happy to share this will all fans of TimeIn. So much love has gone into working with these kids for nearly two decades.

Hopefully this little mini-trailer will make you smile and you'll find it in your heart to support our work on what will be a very wonderful documentary.

Martin Roth was one of TimeIn's greatest champions. As we close out this Holiday Season, in honor of Martin, I invite you to watch the beginnings of our work on The Art of Change - a documentary and I have started on Time In with our French editor, Florent Thomas.

When I first created The Time In Children's Arts Initiative I went to a conference held by BBB hopeful that the work I was proposing would be embraced by big foundations. I was very innocent and I imagined that the panelists would be swept off their feet by the ambitiousness of TimeIn. Alas. One of the panelists quickly assured me that we would be out of business in 6 months.

Well, of course we weren't. Which is a testament to the fact that artists have deep pockets of imagination plus grit that the regular world doesn't have. For 17 years, with thousands of kids, we always did what we set out to do. If the funding wasn't there, we begged and made do. Where there's a will there's a way.

I hope you will take the time to watch what we've done so far and to listen to the words of TimeIn's children and parents as they talk about what our presence in their communities meant to them over the past 17 years.

And then, if the spirit move you in these last days of the year, support us with a gift that will allow us to finish our documentary. With nearly two decades of work in some of NYC's least privileged public schools, we have the documentation to show what really works.

And the time to share solutions and raise awareness is definitely NOW.

Did you miss this?

I’m so proud to be talking about what we’re doing and to have the opportunity to ask for your support! As we watch many of the values we stand for be trivialized, TimeIn’s work to raise awareness about solutions that work to bring change to the lives and learning of children living in chronic poverty.
