Strokestown Town Team has been made aware that there are some inaccuracies floating around in relation to work in which we are currently engaged. Here are the facts.

Since the new Town Team executive was elected in February 2026, we have been actively working to progress projects identified in the Town Centre First Plan: https://www.roscommoncoco.ie/en/services/community/regeneration/strokestown-2040-a-town-centre-first-plan/strokestown-town-centre-first-plan-final-sept-11-9-23.pdf.

There is some confusion out there about two of these projects in particular, namely a new community and wellbeing hub and a new public park, that we wish to clarify.

In regards the Community Hub, this project is supported by Strokestown Town Team and work has been completed on a design and gathering support from various groups interested in utilising such a facility. An attempt was made to acquire The Magnet Ballroom, by Roscommon County Council in support of our efforts, this however was unsuccessful. The project has not been in a position to be progressed since we now need a new strategy to either: further the concept at another site, better utilise existing spaces or secure sufficient funding to progress the original concept.

Regards the development of a new public park, we are currently acquiring quotes to progress with a feasibility study on this idea and there is no finalised plan yet. A lease has been provided to us from the diocese for the land known as “The Canon’s Field” for the development of this project. We wish to thank the parish for supporting our efforts in developing this project, to bring a more balanced development to Strokestown. The project is currently faced with zoning restrictions impeding imminent progression that we are currently addressing and we will look to engage more broadly with the public as we advance completion of the feasibility study.

As we progress further with the development of our projects we will inform members of the public via only this page and also via advertised public meetings, which will be announced also on this page also, as may be necessary from time to time when projects reach advanced enough stages to garner broader public input. This is the place to get official Town Team news.

For any group/business looking to become involved in the organisation to help progress ideas supported by our overarching plan, please feel free to reach out to this page to submit an expression of interest and for members of the public seeking accurate information on the development of our projects please reach out only to this page and our official email address [email protected] for accurate information.

Strokestown Town Team is backing Cllr. Tom Crosby’s motion for Monday’s Roscommon County Council meeting. ✅

In recent weeks, a number of residents have approached us in regard to getting painting of homes post-realm works done, as was done number of years back. This would finish off the town nicely upon completion of the works. 🖌️

We are happy to see Cllr. Crosby’s motion be brought forward for Monday’s council meeting, which will in conjunction with a heritage design specialist “support the preparation and implementation of suitable colour schemes”, and we hope that our other elected representatives will back it. 🙂

We are delighted to see the work being done by Roscommon County Council and Tower Civil Engineering to support Strokestown Christmas Lights. The lights was originally setup as a Strokestown Town Team initiative and from each year has gone from strength to strength.

Thank you Cllr Seán Moylan for your advocacy on this on behalf of the Christmas Lights Committee to get this work put into the programme. Tis a great boost. 😃

Thank you to the Roscommon People for highlighting this magnificent effort to bring pieces of our heritage back to Strokestown. 👏

We look forward to working over the coming weeks and months to see this fabulous piece of period printing equipment restored and back on public display. Be sure to watch this space. ❤️

Last week was a very good first step in the completion of the work in developing our energy master plan. Shay from Midland Energy Consultants Ltd, was busy around the town calling to our 10 lucky households who were selected to receive a free BER assessment on foot of the random draw organised by Energy Co-operatives Ireland, our Energy Master Plan Consultants, a number of weeks ago. ⚡️

This is a great first step in the work that will be done over the next number of months and we look forward to the next stages which will see 5 community buildings assessed. 👷

Also, a quick thanks as well to the Roscommon Herald who recently covered our Grant Information evening which was held in The Percy French Hotel a number of weeks ago. Don’t worry if you missed out, there will no doubt be future events so that YOU can understand how you can improve your household energy efficiency with Grant aided works. ☀️

Be sure to stay tuned! 😊

Strokestown Town Team welcomes Cllr Tom Crosby’s motion passed at today’s monthly Roscommon County Council meeting, providing for a feasibility study for the establishment of a county museum situated in Strokestown. 👏

This is a project idea that is supported whole heartedly by the Town Team and would see the potential to bring permenant jobs, and better distribution of tourism revenues throughout the town, with it being mutually beneficial for our neighbours in Strokestown Park House and indeed in other surrounding towns and villages. 😃

A further thanks also has to be given for your generous offer to provide space at The Cornerstone for “no rent, no cost, no nothing” and we hope that Roscommon County Council would take you up on that offer should the project come to fruition. 🤝

Thank you very much and fair play to each and everyone of the councillors for supporting this call. We look forward to the results of the study and we hope that we can progress this project to future stages! 🤞

We hope that the Cllrs in their monthly meeting today at Roscommon County Council pass the motion put forward and fair play Cllr Tom Crosby for hearing our input on this and bringing it forward. 👏

Councillor Tom Crosby says the town is ideal for Roscommon's county museum - with Strokestown Park House and the National Famine Museum.

We are delighted to see work progressing at pace on the three properties awarded funding under the Historic Towns Initiative for essential repair works. 💪

Strokestown Town Team supported the application prepared by Roscommon County Council for these works which will ensure that these buildings remain part of our built heritage for years to come. ❤️

We’ve had a very busy week here at the Strokestown Town Team! 😅

With our first monthly meeting for Q2 done and dusted we want to extend a massive thank you to Sen. Gareth Scahill - Roscommon / Galway Constituency, who attended our meeting this month and was very helpful in his presentation to us in regards Sustainable Energy Communities and how we can make the most of available funding in partnership with the SEAI and other statutory bodies. Thank you Gareth for your excellent presentation to us! 😀

Following on from that we were hard at work on admin this week and in learning how other Town Teams in the region operate. Our Chairman Rory Doyle North Roscommon sat in on the Boyle Town Team meeting this month, at the kind invitation of Ciaran Sheerin, the Boyle Town Team Chairman. Thank you so much for letting us listen and learn, we hope to emulate some of your success in the near future! 👏👏

Finally, to round out the week, we were out in partnership with the Strokestown Community Development Association (SCDA) to help deliver the annual Easter Parade this year. We have to give a major shout out to our long time member and lead parade organiser Eugene Murphy and his entire team at the SCDA for what was a truly spectacular Bosco themed parade this year. We were delighted to help out and continue to see use of our unmistakable red gazebos! 🔺

As we continue our work on our Energy Master Plan with Energy Co-operatives Ireland, the Strokestown Sport & Activity Hub and other initiatives, now more than ever it is important that YOUR community group has a seat at the table. If you’re involved in a local business or community group that does not currently have a representative on the Strokestown Town Team, please email us at [email protected] and be sure to come along to help us build the truly representative organisation this town needs to get big projects done. 😀
