Held each September, Shorelines offers a feast of Music, Literature, Film, Theatre, Visual Art, Fami

We started out in 2007 and now in our 13th year, the festival has developed into a premier boutique festival in the Midlands. The festival is a true community project organised by an eight-member local voluntary committee who take pride in seeing the population of Portumna significantly increase in numbers for the duration of the festival. REMINDER! 🎬 The multiple-award-winning film Hamnet, starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, screens tomorrow Wednesday, 28th October, in the at 8pm.

The ticketing system has changed this year and tickets for Hamnet are available online. To purchase please visit shorelinesartsfestival.com/film-nights and follow the prompt to book.

There will be tickets sold at the door on a first-come first-serve basis as capacity is limited. Come early to avoid disappointment. Please note tickets are now €10. This is to cover increased costs.

festival weekend came to a close with Paddy Cullivan's The Murder of Michael Collins, a fascinating and in-depth look into the unresolved questions and suspected cover-up surrounding the fatal ambush of Michael Collins in 1922. We listened and learned, we laughed and we even sang along at times! It's safe to say we were thoroughly entertained by this incredible one-man show that somehow manages to be a mix of murder mystery, historical lecture and musical entertainment all rolled into one. Catch it if you can!

Writers Moyra Donaldson, Claire Hennessy, David McLoghlin and Neil Tully joined Portumna writer Noelle Lynskey in Portumna Courthouse for Pen Power, delighting our audience with reflections & readings on the novel, short story and memoir.

We don't mean to sound boastful, but we really are blessed with talent around these parts! What a treat it was to listen to baritone Pascal Kennedy (from just up the road in Lorrha) and pianist Sophie Ward (based just out the road in Birr!) as they took us on a journey through the storytelling of Art Song. Together they performed Vaughan Willam's Songs of Travel and Butterworth's Six Songs from a Shropshire Lad featuring the poetry of Roberth Louis Stevenson and A.E. Housman.

Just a reminder that we still have two wonderful exhibitions on display at Portumna Castle Gallery until September 30th. Pop in this weekend to see the wide variety of work by artist Olga Dmitrieva Byrne, which is deeply inspired by nature, landscapes and folklore. There's also the Small Spaces photography exhibition by members of Portumna Camera Club, celebrating the overlooked, the intimate and the unexpected!

Why not visit the exhibitions, enjoy a coffee and treat in the tea rooms and take a leisurely stroll around the castle and gardens. That sounds like a pretty great day out to us!

Take a fine day and add beautiful tunes from a talented local duo and what could be better?! What an afternoon we had listening to Nach Tú, a singer/songwriter duo of siblings Aoife and Paul Costello from Killimor. We could have stayed there listening all day but all good things must come to an end and after all, it's better to leave the crowd wanting more and Nach Tú certainly did that!

Congratulations to our very own committee member extraordinaire Breeda O'Connor for her well deserved win in the Lines Learned by Heart recitation competition.

Like all of our winners, Breeda will get to take home the beautifully crafted book box created by local artist Brian Murray.

Well done to everyone who took part this year and special thanks to our judge, writer David McLoghlin, who was brave enough to take on the unenviable job of choosing a winner this year!
