Programme Benefits: As music, drama, and movement activities, not only aid fine and gross motor development, but also stimulate attention, cooperation, sensory processing, visual skills, speech & language development and impulse control. It is important to integrate all of these skills and help service user be the best they can be and it’s incredible to know that rhythm and movement activities can help aid them in so many areas. Customised Programmes: MeTime – Me Time with No Limits programmes have been designed in partnership with many local and national organisations. Clients have attended these programmes in Laois but we are always seeking partnerships to roll out programmes nationwide, they encourage communication, growth, life and social skills individually in all participants. Family Sensory Training Workshops (countrywide): Specially designed to allow parents, siblings and those with special needs to learn and have fun together. Three individual workshops have initially been structured for those with Autism, ADHD and Down Syndrome. Children learn best through hands on learning by using their senses. Seeing, touching, hearing, smelling and tasting are great ways for children to explore their environment and process the world around them. This workshop will discuss how children develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively through sensory play. Caregivers are encouraged to attend with all their children. The first half of the workshop will be a seminar and group discussions for the adults and older siblings, while children play in a separate room staffed by Childcare/ Special Needs Assistants. The second half of the workshop will be a time for families to play and explore a room full of sensory materials. 5 key benefits of sensory play: Build self-esteem and problem solving skills, increases self-control, enhance creativity and imagination, grow relationships and confidence, move with courage. Dyslexia Programme: Weekly workshops provide appropriate specialist tuition in a small group setting each session lasts two hours. Providing your child with: neps phonics assessment, pre-screening tests phonological programmes eg: toe by toe, pat literacy programmes, reading comprehension strategies, writing and spelling strategies, fun online phonics games. Children’s School Tour days / Parent & Toddler Messy Play: Soft play, sensory games, play dough, bun decorating, parachute games, use of sensory room, art therapy and other tactile activities make for a messy and fun experience for children and their peers. Afterschool: A unique Autism Friendly Afterschool programme. We are continually seeking schools to partner with us as this programme can be designed to be outreach & onsite in primary schools throughout country Laois. Children participate in structured supported play activities including lifeskills, art, graffiti, animation, drama, OT & sports coordination supported by childcare and SNA staff. Art & Graffiti/ Street Art: Our art classes cover a range of different aspects of art including graffiti, clay modelling, mosaic, 3D art, making crafts and basic painting. Each class is designed and developed with the service user in mind, with our tutors delivering classes based on the ability of each service user. We also have a number of volunteers working in a hands-on capacity with our clients in order for them to experience the class to the best of their ability. Our art classes not only give the clients the opportunity to try something new in relation to art but also gives them the opportunity to develop their social skills as a number of our classes are attended by groups from a range of organisations and so the service users have the opportunity to meet new people of similar abilities. Each participant also brings home their pieces of work and from this gain a sense of achievement as they show family and friends their hard work. Sports & Coordination: Play is a keystone of development for all. Consider the cognitive engagement when service users are working playing chess or the motor skills and coordination involved in participating in the sports & coordination workshops, even just completing the circuit, catching a ball, or the socialisation skills required in playing a team game. Through play, they expand skill sets related to: Communication, emotional expression, creativity, critical thinking, socialisation, fine/gross motor skills. Music Appreciation: Music encourages: Memory, better behaviour, group participation, listening and fine motor skills. Feeling a strong pulse is important for participants and enhancing movement activities with music is a great way to get people motivated. Steady pulses encourage a regular gait. Participants can clap or play an instrument to the beat to reinforce that rhythm. Rhythms also help establish routines, and they begin to know what to expect. Breaks in the rhythm by doing start and stop movement activities, such as a freeze dance are beneficial. Rhythm also helps participants establish the connection between sound and the vibration of movement, which is also great for sensory integration. Animation: Clients can learn how to design a storyboard, create clay models and sets. They will be taught how to use the camera and video editing equipment before participating in the creation of a completed video by the end of the course.
