Free solar panels and a battery through the Warmer Homes Scheme ☀️

Since 6 October 2026, the free Warmer Homes Scheme covers solar PV panels and a battery storage system for people that qualify.

You may be able to get:

☀️ Solar panels of up to 4 kWp (kilowatt-peak)
🔋 A battery system of 5 kWh (kilowatt-hour)

The Warmer Homes Scheme provides free home energy upgrades, like insulation, to homeowners who get certain social welfare payments.

You must also own and live in the home and it must have been built and occupied before 2006.

If you qualify and your home is suitable, the upgrades are free. The SEAI assesses each home to determine which improvements are suitable.

Changes to multiple learner permits take effect from 1 November 2026.

If you're applying for a third or fourth learner permit, you must have taken a driving test within the previous two years.

Simply booking a test or being on a waiting list is not enough.

If you reach the end of your fourth or subsequent learner permit and need to continue learning, you may be required to restart the learning-to-drive process.

If you're on your second, third or subsequent learner permit, check how the changes may affect you and plan ahead.

Changes are coming!

The 1st November 2026 learner permit changes will affect both existing and new permit holders. Make sure you understand how the new rules apply to you.

As of 1st November 2026, if you are:

Applying for your third learner permit:
✔️ You must have sat and failed a driving test in the previous 2 years

Applying for your fourth learner permit:
✔️ You must have sat and failed a driving test in the previous 2 years
✔️ This permit will only be valid for one year

On your fourth or more learner permit:
✔️ You can no longer renew your learner permit and must begin the learning to drive process again:

1. Pass a Driver Theory Test in the category
2. Apply for new Learner Permit
3. Complete EDT* or IBT (16–18 hrs for motorbikes) before your next driving test - *Reduced EDT can only be availed of once - (All 12 lessons required if previously utilised)

📌All learner permit holders whose permit is expired for 2 years or more (on or after 1st November 2026) must also begin the learning to drive process again

Ferry from Rosslare passport control

Travelling by ferry between Ireland and the UK?

From 28 September 2026, you must show a valid passport or passport card at check-in when travelling by ferry between Ireland and the UK.

This applies to all:

✅ Irish citizens
✅ UK citizens
✅ EU citizens
✅ Non-EU citizens
✅ Adults, children and babies

You cannot use any other form of identification such as:

❌Driving licence
❌Birth Certificate
❌Other photo ID

If you are not an Irish or UK citizen, you may need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel by ferry to the UK for a short stay of up to 6 months.

Before you travel, check with your ferry operator about their identification requirements.

Bring them to the FREE Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at Holmestown Waste Management Facility, Barntown, Co. Wexford (Y35 Y28W).

✅ Paints (10 can/tub limit)
✅ Garden chemicals
✅ Solvents
✅ Automotive fluids (25 litre motor oil limit)

❌ No commercial or farm waste
❌ No medicines, WEEE or gas canisters
