Good News!! We have teamed up with the Irish Sawmillers Guild (ISG) to build an attractive Pergola around our new workshop, to proceed in the new year. See the pergola plan below. The ISG have competency and expertise in small scale sawmilling and will work with K&DMS to construct the Pergola and in doing so will provide us with woodwork skills. The ISG works with Irish timber and has an ethic of sustainability to support private forest owners and rural communities. The ISG, in support of our community has agreed to provide their expertise and labour free of charge. We shall raise funds to cover the costs of the materials and other necessary skilled labour. We are incredibly grateful to the ISG for their support. see: https://irishsawmillersguild.ie/

Developments at Kells & District Men’s Shed have recently taken a great forward movement with the installation of their new workshop. On Tuesday August 18 members watched with anticipation as the Adman Steel Sheds company arrived in Kells, with four trucks and eight workmen, to construct the insulated steel frame shed which will be their new workshop. From 8am to 2pm Adman construction workers toiled to erect the 40 X 26 foot shed on our new site on the road into Riverside housing estate. The shed arrived in parts fully measured to the awaiting concrete plinth and was efficiently erected in an exacting timeframe. “It was quite an emotional experience to see it being built before our eyes”, said Chairman Seamus McDonagh, who had worked for this moment for many years!!

What a great night we had in O’Connor’s Pub yesterday! Congratulations to Simon McAleese, who was the winner of the draw. Simon very generously insisted on donating the majority of his winnings back to us. We are incredibly grateful to Simon and his wife, Lorraine, for their kindness and support!

The concrete base is now installed for our new Workshop. We are looking forward to the shed arriving in early August. We are very grateful for the support and encouragement we have received from many many people in Kells and the surrounding district as we sold tickets for our raffle. The draw will take place in O'Connors Pub on the 7th August at 9pm. See: https://www.idonate.ie/raffle/KellsMensShed
A special thanks to our contractor, Retrovate for the good work and O'Reilly Precast who gave us the concrete 🙏
