While many people feel powerless to help the vast number of refugees who are in need, one small community in Kells banded together and enabled a Syrian family to come to Ireland and settle directly into the town. Through community sponsorship, refugees who are fleeing conflict and persecution are brought to a safe and secure country like Ireland, where they are fully supported by the local communi
ty. With the support of many generous people in the locality the group has already, back in 2019, welcomed and supported a refugee family from Syria. Mum, Dad and their three beautiful children are now happily settled in Kells and are integrating very well into the local community. Due to the ongoing misery in Syria and the appalling condition of life in refugee camps in Lebanon we now hope to welcome and resettle a second family. To do this, we must raise a minimum of €10,000. This sum is determined by the Department of Justice and Equality. We are a voluntary group so all funds raised will go towards meeting the needs of the family and achieving our goal. As a local committee our task includes:
• Fundraising (minimum of €10,000) to support our goal
• Identifying accommodation for the family
• Co-ordinating access to the State’s Social Protection services
• Co-ordinating access to Health Services
• Co-ordinating access to the education system for children and other training e.g. English Language
• Providing any practical and logistical support to the family
• Navigating cross cultural adaptation challenges throughout the integration journey
• Assisting in any other way to welcome the family to our community
Your financial donation or support would be most welcome.
