Cavan Gaels is rallying behind our Ladies Senior Coach and long-time club member, Mick Flynn, as he prepares to walk 122 km along the Portuguese Camino starting 14 September.

Mick is taking on this incredible challenge to raise vital funds for our wonderful local cancer support service, Cuan Cancer Support

His goal is to raise enough funds to purchase a Dragon Boat, which plays a massive role in promoting physical activity and supporting recovery after cancer treatment.

My name is Vanessa Mooney, a breast cancer survivor and the founder of Someone Like Me, a free Irish app that connects people affected by cancer privately, one to one, with someone who has been there. It's for all cancer types, men and women, and you choose who you connect with by age, location and stage.

It's there for every stage, not just treatment. Whether somebody has just been diagnosed, is in the middle of treatment, has finished and is living with the fear of it coming back, or is living with secondary cancer, there is someone on there who understands. Family members and loved ones have their own separate space too, because nobody ever thinks to ask the rock how they're getting on.

The idea came to me at three o'clock in the morning, wide awake and sick from chemotherapy, wanting to talk to somebody who had been through it. There was nobody, and that's where the name came from. We sadly lost both my mam Phyllis and my sister Veronica, who was diagnosed with lung cancer two months before I was, and the two of us went through chemotherapy together. I was diagnosed at 40 and I'm six years clear now.

I also host the Someone Like Me, Your Cancer Community podcast, which has over 20,000 downloads, talking to people at every stage of a cancer journey and to the loved ones supporting or grieving somebody.

The app is live on iOS and Android, with over 200 users and a pilot running at St Vincent's Private Hospital. Have a look here: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.someonelikeme.ie/download-mobile-app&source=gmail&ust=1788357311194000&sa=E

Cavan is a scattered county and a lot of your people are travelling a long way for treatment. For anyone who can't get in to Knappogue House, or who is at home in the middle of the night, this is a way of reaching somebody who understands without leaving the kitchen table.

This camp offers families a supportive environment within which they can share their experience of loss and find ways to look to the journey ahead .

Over the course of the weekend, the Bereavement therapist will facilitate onsite sessions where children and families come together to share their stories, talk about the challenges and find ways that will support them as they move forward. Please note these elements are optional.

More importantly, it offers families time to link with others who truly understand what they are going through.

There is no timeline limit on families who would like to attend since the time of their loved ones passing. It is more if a family feels it is the right time for them to attend .

Hello, My name is Emma, Lisa Kearns

Me and my friends Caitlin, Paddy and Darragh are taking on a tandem skydive to raise funds for Cuan, a charity that means so much to my family.

In 2024, my family was turned upside down when my mam was diagnosed with Stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. It was one of the most difficult times we have ever faced, but Cuan was there every step of the way. They were an incredible source of support for my mam and the entire family, offering compassion, guidance, and care when we needed it most.

Thankfully, my mam is now in remission, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We would love the opportunity to give something back to the charity that helped us through such a difficult chapter in our lives.

This GoFundMe has been set up to support our skydive, and every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly towards our fundraising total for Cuan. We also have more fundraising events planned in the lead-up to the skydive, so be sure to keep an eye on our social media pages for updates and ways to get involved.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting our fundraiser. Whether you choose to donate or simply share our page, your support means the world to us and will help Cuan continue making a difference to families like mine.

Good night out for this Saturday folks, if you would like to support Emma's sky- dive here is the link :
