Bit of good news this morning 🌸

🌿 Tidy Towns funding for Wicklow 2027 🌿

32 Wicklow Tidy Towns groups are being awarded a total of €56,000 under the Tidy Towns 2027 Fund.

I warmly welcome this funding, and I want to thank every group and volunteer for the work they put into keeping our towns and villages clean, green and welcoming.

We are delighted to receive an additional 13 points in this years National Tidy Towns competition. Since our first application in 2021 we’ve gained 63 points, our adjudication report is a very positive read and always a great roadmap for our team going forward. Points are hard earned and a testament to the dedication of our committee and volunteers.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement. It’s a team effort and great to work alongside Annacurra GAA & LGFA, Camogie Club, Foroige, Hall Committee, Annacurra NS and Parish Council, the Bowls club and Badminton club. The residents of the village and Hazel Hill.

We must acknowledge the invaluable help received from Peter Grace and the CE scheme, Hugh Doyle and his crew from Wicklow County Council, to the Climate Action Officers and the staff from Wicklow County Council for their guidance in the past year.

We have so much to look forward to in the coming year, thanks to our Climate Action Grant we have new windows and doors ordered for our Community Centre, insulation of the building will begin in the new year. Last week work began on our Community Biodiversity Garden which will be a beautiful new addition to the centre of our village.

Congratulations to our neighbours Aughrim who regained their bronze medal and to all the groups in Wicklow who continue to do so well.

It is with great sadness that we heard of the sudden passing of Jim Hedderman.

Jim was a quiet volunteer in our community. He did so much for the village, often without most people even being aware of it. Over the years, he was always willing to offer his advice, share his ideas and quietly get things moving. He donated beautiful bulbs, approached the Council about improvements that could be made around the village, and many of his suggestions were carried through.

One of the best examples of Jim’s contribution was the bin at the entrance to the Playground. Since the bin was placed there in 2012, he and his family have consistently looked after it and emptied it, recycling what they could and putting the remainder into their own household waste. This was a huge undertaking, carried out year after year, simply because Jim saw it as his contribution to the village.

Jim was also great company and always had time for a chat. In fact, if you didn’t have a spare half hour to talk to Jim, you were in trouble!

Our sincere condolences to his wife Annette, to his children Hannah, Deana and Luke and to all the Hedderman and Carr family at this very sad time.

May Jim rest in peace.

As Fr John Paul Sheridan’s stay in Annacurra comes to an end, we’d like to thank him for his invaluable contribution to the village in that time.

He has helped and supported many of our projects over these years. He will be missed in Annacurra and we wish him the best of luck in his new post in Maynooth.

The Making Better Happen Awards are a nationwide initiative celebrating local communities and environmental groups creating positive change across Ireland.

We found these guys over the weekend, while cleaning up the village. 🐝 Around 1500 native Irish bees. They built a fabulous nest on the way into the village. We reached out to Pat Winters , swarms.ie , to help us out in removing it. Thanks Pat for helping out. It was amazing to see it. Everyone is happy including the bees. Nature at it's best. Moved on to a safe place for all. 🐝

We’re busy getting the village ready for this year’s Tidy Towns competition, thanks to all who have helped so far. If anyone has an hour to spare we’ll be in the village from this evening Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 6.30pm painting, planting, weeding and tidying. All help much appreciated 🐝🌼
