We found these guys over the weekend, while cleaning up the village. 🐝 Around 1500 native Irish bees. They built a fabulous nest on the way into the village. We reached out to Pat Winters , swarms.ie , to help us out in removing it. Thanks Pat for helping out. It was amazing to see it. Everyone is happy including the bees. Nature at it's best. Moved on to a safe place for all. 🐝

We are absolutely delighted to share the fantastic news that Annacurra has secured €69,400 in funding through the Community Climate Action Fund.

Last year, together with Annacurra GAA & LGFA, we applied for funding to support important projects in the village that will benefit Climate Action and Biodiversity. We are thrilled that this funding will now help bring these projects to life:

🐝 New Community Biodiversity Garden
A beautiful new biodiversity garden will be created beside Hazel Hill in the heart of the village for everyone in the community to enjoy.

🌸 Annacurra Community Centre Upgrades
The centre will benefit from new external windows, doors and insulation, greatly improving comfort and energy efficiency for all users.

We would like to sincerely thank Julie Sammiller, Jim Callery and Sarah Rubalcava, Climate Action Officers with Wicklow County Council, for all their help and guidance in planning the biodiversity garden since we first approached them over a year ago.

A thank you also to County Engineer Avril Hill and her team, and to Councillor Pat Kennedy for their continued support and assistance.

During National Biodiversity Week, we are especially delighted to receive this opportunity and look forward to delivering these worthwhile projects for the benefit of the entire Annacurra community.

Congratulations to all of the other successful applicants. 👏

Some old photographs of the original Parish Hall in Annacurra which were taken by John Byrne (Taylor) and given to me a couple of years ago. We shared them on our Tidy Towns WhatsApp group last year and there was lots of chat about the old hall. Thought we’d share for those not on our WhatsApp group.

Kevin Stapleton was able to tell us who everyone was.

That's myself (Kevin Stapleton) on the roof. Jimmy O'Neill Mucklagh in sports coat. He just called in to see us. John Byrne (Taylor) and Donal Byrne were also with me along with a couple more people.
The old Hall was taken down and anything that was worth selling was sold on the fundraising auction a week or so later. Pat O'Neill bought the gate piers at that auction. I'm almost sure that was around November 1980.

Annacurra Community Centre official opening Friday 24th April 1981. Brendan Shine Band played.

A great weekends work in the village, a big thank you to everyone who helped out. Julieann, Dan, Fainche and Donnchadh gave the playground area a w**d and tidy, Sinead, Edel and the Foroige team along with Darragh and Richie did a great job strimming, Monica has the bus shelter and post box shining, Ritchie & Annemarie made a super start on our bridge, Aideen and Ewan tackled the hedge, Stuart did a great job strimming too. A couple of hours work has made a huge difference, a lovely chat over a coffee afterwards in the hall was a treat, thanks Annemarie. A great start to the summer 🌸
