Monoculture forestry of Sitka Spruce is NOT good for biodiversity. Patrick mentions Continuous Cover Forestry which is the better alternative for commercial forestry that is kinder to nature. Large plantations of Sitka Spruce are not the answer. Well done Patrick on highlighting this issue.

WWEN committee member Patrick Hunt on RTE's Liveline today, speaking of his concerns about an industry-produced booklet that was sent to primary schools about the value of Sitka Spruce! Monoculture forestry full of Sitka Spruce is not good for biodiversity. Patrick mentions Continuous Cover Forestry which is the better alternative for commercial forestry that is kinder to nature. Large plantations of Sitka Spruce are not the answer. Well done Patrick on highlighting this issue.

Listeners are concerned about a book sent to primary schools that promotes Sitka Spruce plantations.

WWEN committee members, Aideen, Barbara, Jeanette and Helen were in Blessington this week to receive a donation from Blessington Credit Union.

Board members Seamus Cullen and Michael Doyle handed over a very welcome cheque to WWEN.

WWEN are delighted to have their support to continue to be a voice for the environment in West Wicklow.

Thanks also to Councillor Jason Mulhall for encouraging us to seek support from the credit union.

Thanks to those who turned out today to support the Native Woodland Trust with maintenance of their deer fence and tree TLC in Bevans' Wood. Despite the rain, tree TLC was a joy - removing plastic tree-guards from trees that have grown 30cm or more above their tree-guard. Great to be back in this lovely woodland and to see how well the trees we planted a few years ago have grown 👏💚🌳
