How does OFFline pick its short film programme?

Our panel is made up of filmmakers, writers, actors, and artists. They meet once a month or so in to put forward their picks from the submissions. Each film is assigned to multiple judges to ensure a fair judgement and diverse range of impressions. Then the deliberation begins; discussion, disagreement, dissection. Long-listing, short-listing. Selection.

Our festival is in seven months and the shorts selection committee have already watched over 100 films!

If you’ve got a submission for our competition programme, see the link in bio or search OFFline Film Festival on Film Freeway.

Based in the heritage town of Birr, Co. Offaly, OFFline Film Festival is an exciting five-day event for film lovers and makers alike. Since 2010, we’ve been screening Irish and International films in a quirky array of venues around Offaly.

Every year we accept short films of all genres from all over the world to our short film competition. Prizes include Best Irish Short, Best International Short, the OFFline Audience Award, and Best Animation.

We screen a specially curated selection of Irish and International features and short films while also providing workshops given by industry professionals.

📽️ From Ground Zero
🗓️12 October / 1.30pm
📍Birr Theatre

From Ground Zero, Palestine’s 2025 Oscars entry, is a powerful anthology of short films showcasing emerging Palestinian artists. Curated by filmmaker Rashid Masharawi and executive produced by Michael Moore, the project offers raw, diverse glimpses into life in Gaza—blending fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental film.

Heartbreaking yet hopeful, the collection captures resilience amid catastrophe, giving voice to people too often reduced to statistics. Once accepted, then pulled from the 2024 Cannes lineup for political reasons, From Ground Zero stands as both an artistic testament and urgent cry for humanity from a people under siege.

1h 52mins

All proceeds going to Medical Aid for Palestinians
