🐝It's not all big projects. There is a lot of maintenance needed to keep our town looking great and it would be a whole pile more difficult without the fantastic efforts from our local sports and leisure clubs who lend a hand every year. So massive thanks to who joined us yesterday evening.
🐝Together we tackled all of the kerb w**d around the skate park, playing court and Riverside Park/MUGA. We never use herbicides or sprays but it is worth it to keep our environment safe for wildlife and the kids that use this space.
🐝We also did some extra planting in our herb bed which now has a real sensory aspect to it with lots of scents, colours and textures and all of benefit to pollinators.
🐝We have followed up on the grass cutting here and have been assured it is on the list to be mown soon, now that May is over.
🐝Last but not definitely not least, many thanks to O'Farrell's on South Main St for their generous sponsorship. A fantastic shop for gifts, magazines, books and chocolate among many other things and who have been supporting our community for over 120 years.

🐝NEW PROJECT
🐝We were joined by Councillors Marie O'Sullivan, Cllr Ann Bambury Bandon Kinsale and John Collins, and Gwendoline Harold Barry Trustee and former TD Jim O'Keeffe to open our new picnic area today, on the Bernard's Bridge Walk.
🐝This project was funded thanks to a grant from Cork County Council Community Fund, the Gwendoline Harold Barry Trust and our own fundraising.
🐝Designed by our group and inspired by the railway line which used to occupy this walk, the picnic area has a circular stone bench with cut stone paving to make a wheel and spoke pattern, and a paved path with reclaimed rails to form a railway track effect.
🐝The base of the seating is made from drystone wall which was built by our group and other volunteers from the community during a drystone wall workshop led by master craftsmen Karl Kennedy and Steven Rowe a few weeks ago.
🐝This new picnic area complements the fantastic locomotive and coach sculpture we commissioned artist Nathan Solomon to create last year and the Bandon Railway Heritage Trail which we launched in March.
🐝As further walks are developed along the old railway line, this will provide a rest stop for walkers and cyclists, as well as a little haven for residents and for nature in this rapidly growing part of town.

🐝Another busy week for us as Tidy Towns Competition Adjudicators could arrive any day... or as late as August... we never know exactly when!!!!
🐝Yesterday evening we did clearing of kerb w**d along the Clonakilty Road and did work on the Bernard's Bridge Walk.
🐝We have been busy maintaining planters around town and out on the Kilbrittain and Clonakilty Roads, deadheading and watering to ensure a colourful summer for our town.
🐝The Oldchapel Crew were out this evening, clearing w**d from the kerbs and paths.
🐝Some of our volunteers were also out this evening in Riverside Park/MUGA w**ding the herb and fruit bed.

Lovely to see this happening. Over time so much natural colour will emerge and support bees, butterflies and other wildlife. Why not get creative with the green spaces in your housing estates or business by leaving a square, circle or corner for wildlife. Reach out to us for advice on how to achieve the best impact. Thanks to Paul, Declan and all at Riverview Shopping Centre - Bandon for showing leadership in supporting nature in our town.

In line with our ‘Pollinator Plan’ and in partnership with Bandon Tidy Towns Group & Bandon Environmental Action Group we are re wilding sections of our banking along Weir St.

🐝Massive thanks to Bandon Girl Guides who did a litter pick earlier this week along the Graham Norton Walk and at MUGA on Monday.
🐝We were out yesterday evening putting mulch down at Allen Square. This will burst into colour soon and the mulch will help keep the w**ds down and stop the soil drying out. Thanks again to Topline Kellehers Hardware for their generous sponsorship of this job.
🐝We also put in extra plants into the beds at the Junction of North Main St and Kilbrogan Hill, to add to the planters outside the town hall which were recently cleared out and replanted.
🐝We have been out litter picking daily as we are in the last week of the anti-litter challenge. Unfortunately we are short numbers this week along with litter being particularly bad this week. The old Playground and Fish Corner at the two blackspots and despite cleaning every morning we come back to an absolute mess the following morning.
🐝We will keep going for now but we really need more help if we are to keep this going. There are lots of different ways to get involved so reach out any time.

A mobile phone was found at Ballymodan Place/South Main St yesterday morning while out litter picking. It has been handed into the nice people at Bandon Garda Station.
