***FREE EVENT*** at Athenry Castle - Saturday 15th August
We are having various events within the castle including the annual
'have a go' archery.
We are also delighted to have Sinéad Murphy performing within the castle grounds.
Sinéad is an Irish singer-songwriter hailing from Athenry, Co. Galway. After honing her craft at the Cork School of Music with a specialization in vocals and songwriting, she returned to the West of Ireland, becoming a staple of the local live music scene across Galway's top pubs and hotels. Currently gearing up for the release of her debut album in early 2027, Sinéad has already rolled out two standalone singles available across all major streaming platforms.

Sunday the 16th of August 2026 is the 20th anniversary of Athenry Walled Towns Day as part of

Check out Athenry Heritage Centre for details.

Its the 20th anniversary of Walled Towns Day this Sunday 16th August. Join us from 1pm as we celebrate this free family day with Animal Magic Wildlife Displays, 1316 - Medieval Fight Club, Claíomh, Loughrea Craft-Club and many more exhibitors to enjoy. Test your archery skills in the grounds of Athenry Heritage Centre and there's free guided tours as well. Thanks to Galway County Heritage Office and the The Heritage Council for supporting this great community event.

John Madden & Sons Ltd will be carrying out resurfacing works on Church Street, Athenry on behalf of Galway County Council from Monday 27 April 2026 to Friday 1 May 2026.

To facilitate these works, a section of Church Street (between Old Church Street and the Church) will be temporarily closed. Temporary Traffic Management arrangements and signed diversion routes will be in operation daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Motorists and other road users are advised to expect delays and allow additional time for their journeys during this period.

John Madden & Sons Ltd and Galway County Council would like to thank the public for their co‑operation and patience while these essential works are carried out and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
