📊 Deepfakes online: 500K → 8 million in two years
📊 70% of us think we can spot disinformation. Only 24% actually can.
📊 1 in 10 European adolescents shows addiction-like symptoms on social media
📊 9-22 year-olds spend ~21 hours/week on social media or gaming — basically a part-time job
📊 24% of the girls who have been harassed are left feeling physically unsafe.
📊 1 in 2 young Europeans encountered online hate in 2023

These data paint a clear picture of the information environment young Europeans are navigating right now. Disinformation is scaling faster than detection. Online hate is widespread. The mental health toll is real. And the systems meant to prepare young people for all of this are inconsistent and underfunded.

These numbers urge as to take action and we support what the young people of EPIC IDEA are demanding:

🟠 MIL recognised as a fundamental right across the EU
🟠 Young people present — not consulted afterwards — when policies on digital education, content moderation and platform regulation are designed
🟠 Institutions, schools and decision-makers held accountable for closing the gap between what young people are exposed to and what they're equipped to handle

The data is on every slide. So are the sources. Check them. That's exactly the kind of practice this campaign is asking all of us to model.

They are digital natives. Nobody told them the rules of the game. So they're writing their own — and asking us, the institutions and organisations that have a role in shaping those rules, to listen.

Their demands are also ours:
🟠 Media & Information Literacy must be recognised as a right, not a privilege
🟠 Young people must be in the room when the decisions that affect them are made
🟠 No one — not algorithms, not platforms, not bad-faith actors — should be able to manipulate a generation that hasn't been given the tools to push back

We commit to amplifying these voices, supporting the implementation of MIL as a structural part of education, and bringing these demands to the conversations we're part of.

The campaign starts here. The work continues with all of us.

👉 Read what they're saying. Share it. And ask yourself: what's one thing your organisation, your school, your community could do to take these demands seriously?

The EU Migration Pact takes effect in June. Return hubs, accelerated deportations, expanded "safe country" lists...refugee rights in Europe are under unprecedented pressure. Four days later, it's World Refugee Day.

We're not watching in silence.
UNITED is looking for volunteers to join our Campaign Preparatory Group (CPG) and help build this year's World Refugee Day campaign, exposing the Fatal Policies of Fortress Europe, to share the updates from our List of Refugee Deaths and call for action.

What you'll do:
🔸Develop content that puts people behind the numbers of the UNITED List of Refugee Deaths
🔸 Design digital campaign materials
🔸Build coalitions with grassroots organisations, educators, and artists
🔸Test and refine messaging across communities

You're a great fit if you're fluent in English, comfortable with tools like Canva or WordPress, and driven by a commitment to human rights and inclusion. You'll also gain hands-on experience in international advocacy, multimedia production, and cross-cultural collaboration.

The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) is running its annual consultation on civic space — and we're calling on all civil society organisations to take part and share their voices.

Collecting data and lived experiences is essential to understand where action is most needed. Now more than ever, civic space must not only be protected — it must be strengthened, to build the resilience and resistance our movements need to face the attacks of this moment.

📝 What it covers:
🔸The state of civil society and civic space
🔸Threats and attacks against CSOs
🔸Financial sustainability
🔸Participation in decision-making
🔸Protection and promotion of civic space
⏱ It takes 10–15 minutes to complete (and it's fully anonymous)

The more of us respond, the louder the message. So please: fill it in, and pass it on. 💪
It's open to CSOs in the EU, Albania, North Macedonia & Serbia.

𝗕𝗮𝗵𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗼̀ 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀! 🟢🔵 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.

55 years since the First World Roma Congress. A flag, an anthem, a movement built on one insistence: full and equal rights.
Today we celebrate that legacy — and we echo the European Roma Rights Centre plea: 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀.

Because antigypsyism remains one of the most persistent forms of discrimination in Europe. It shows up in segregated schools, denied housing, unchallenged hate speech, and policies that erase rather than include. It is structural, it is political, and it is escalating. And as the ERRC reminds us, 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Yet Roma communities have never waited for recognition to be given. They've built it, from grassroots organising to European institutions. Celebrating that resilience means dismantling what holds it back. Listening to Roma-led voices. Showing up, not just today, calling out all the instances of antigypsism in every field of life.

The fight for Roma rights is a front line in the fight for the kind of Europe we want to live in. An attack on the rights of one group is an attack on the rights of all.

𝗢𝗽𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮. This concerns everyone.

With the International Day Against Racism just behind and at a time when the EU Parliament has just approved a law enabling deportation centres outside the EU, endorsing talks with non-recognised third-country entities, and imposing entry bans on returned migrants — the need to organise, resist, and build resilience feels more urgent than ever.

That's why youth projects are fundamental and we're glad to be able to support them. As part of the Empowered by Action Erasmus+ project, our member Natalia spent a few days in Prague for a networking meeting with partner organisations from Poland, Czech Republic and Germany, alongside young people active in local groups across these countries 💬🤝

We're gateful to be building these spaces for young people to speak up, connect, and act. Thank you for this experience — already looking forward to what comes next ✨
