Goodbye ecotour group and hello St. Mary's University group! The morning data collection session included neat behaviors like Gizmo and Elli swimming over top of the MVA and Kathleen. Trixie the kitten won her forever home (!!) and the arriving students got their first taste of AKR food, their first hello to the dolphins, and their orientation to AKR. Everyone is ready for a great course!

The last full day was full for the ecotour! Double data collection: 1st brought LOTS of video of dolphin interactions (Rocky & Buzz, Gracie & Alita, Champ & Stan); 2nd included mom/calf pairs (look at this great pic of Bailey & Lightning!). There was snorkeling or diving for the humans, including views of a turtle, eagle rays, squid, and lots of fish. Full post:

Playful, social dolphins (including Gizmo playing with sea grass, pictured here) during data collection led the way for a sea turtle sighting for the snorkelers and spinner dolphins for the divers! Kathleen & Manon shared an overview of DCP's research with the ecotour participants as well as some of the RIMS training team and other AKR guests. Kathleen tried a different technique at the start of data collection! Once fully immersed, Rocky and Sandy were playing chase, leaving Tank to get super close. There will certainly be sections of video data that won't show much dolphin behavior since it's just Tank's side! After data collection, participants headed snorkeling or diving ahead of lunch and a great talk on sea turtles. The evening? Fiesta Night! Christine won the dance contest!

Underwater Day for the Win! The ecotour began early with data collection (check out dolphin Gracie!). The day then included AM + PM snorkels, PM diving, and a night snorkel. Monday! Maya! Margarita! The ecotour group is adjusting to the early mornings for data collection. Plus, they explored Maya Key, snorkeled, dived, and learned about dolphin IDs. It was a busy day, filled with dolphins, fish, pelicans, and more.

Aaaaand, the May 2026 Ecotour has begun! Everyone arrived safely and settled in with either exploring, paddelboarding, swimming, or napping :-) Gear is prepped, participants are briefed, and everyone is ready for the first morning data collection session. Stay tuned!
