Please help us to preserve the harmony of nature for people and, for wildlife. 嘉道理農場暨植物園 (本園) 坐落於本港最高山脈大帽山的北坡和山麓，佔地148公頃。深邃的山谷清溪匯流，翠林環抱，還有不少菜園和梯田農圃，園內還有種種保育及教育設施。

本園於1956年成立，始創目的是援助貧苦農民，助他們自力更生。時至今日，隨着時代變遷，本園的角色亦有所轉變。刻下我們積極在香港及華南地區推廣生物多樣性保育工作，此外並促進發展永續農業和具創意的自然教育。

Kong's highest mountain - Tai Mo Shan. Its deep-set valley has streams, woodlands and vegetable terraces - together with conservation and education facilities. The Farm was established in 1956 to provide agricultural aid to farmers in need of support to help them lead independent lives. Today, reflecting the changing times, KFBG plays an active role in promoting the conservation of biodiversity in Hong Kong and South China, allied with sustainable agriculture and creative nature education.

We invite you and your child to step into the summertime forest and explore the mysteries of nature together through stories, sensory experiences and making natural art crafts. We will share fantastic adventures in the forest with you, igniting curiosity for nature and fostering an appreciation for its beauty.

The summer-night forest is cloaked in starlight, while life hums softly in the dark. Together, we will trace cicadas’ molted shells and follow fireflies’ glowing trails, listening for frogs’ croons and moths’ fluttering wings, discovering the gentle yet vibrant beauty unique to midsummer nights.

Look at the dozens of butterflies out in full force in the KFBG Butterfly Garden, drinking nectar from the Mayflower Glorybower (Clerodendrum cyrtophyllum), a native shrub! Native plants and local butterflies are a perfect evolutionary match; the butterflies support certain native plants through pollination, while the plants provide the nutrients they need to thrive. 2025年2月至2026年1月期間，嘉道理農場暨植物園在與貫文空間合作，於位處大帽山山腰的川龍村進行了一項民族植物研究項目。團隊透過與川龍村民進深入交流，找出各種曾被使用的植物，了解他們使用這些植物的方式以及背後的個人與社區原因，並由此梳理出人、植物與地方之間隨時間演變的深層連結。同時間，本園研究團隊也進行了實地考察，旨在以現代植物生態學的專業角度詮釋村民口述的植物故事。

《喚醒記憶：大帽山的民族植物故事》展覽挑選了十種在村民的生活與回憶中佔重要位置的植物，以相片及插畫結合的方式，在同樣位處大帽山的嘉道理農場暨植物園展出。展覽呈現村民如何運用代代相傳的智慧，將這些植物轉化為日常生活所需的衣食住行與醫藥品，讓民族植物的記憶與文化在大帽山之間流動與延續。

是次植物全接觸是特別為展覽而設的場次。我們很榮幸邀請到川龍村民鄺玉英（Janney）小姐，與參加者一起步行及乘專車從下山區前往上山區，逐一遊覽此十幅大型相片，現場觀賞對應的活體植物主角，了解更多相關的植物及生態知識， 以及它們如何深度融入了村民的生活。

Plant Encounters Summer Theme: Awakening of Memories: Ethnobotanical Stories of Tai Mo Shan

From February 2025 to January 2026, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) partnered with Koon Man Space to carry out an ethnobotany research project in Chuen Lung village, located on the mid slopes of Tai Mo Shan. The team conducted in-depth interviews with Chuen Lung villagers to document the plants they use in various ways, the personal and community reasons for these uses, and the broader connections between people, plants and place that have evolved as a result. KFBG staff also conducted field surveys, aiming to situate the stories thus elicited within a contemporary understanding of Hong Kong's vegetation and flora.

The exhibition “Awakening of Memories: Ethnobotanical Stories of Tai Mo Shan” features 10 plants that hold a significant place in the lives and memories of local villagers. Showcasing a blend of photography and illustration, the exhibition is held at the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, which is also nestled on the slopes of Tai Mo Shan. It highlights how villagers have used generation-spanning wisdom to transform these plants into everyday essentials, from food and clothing to shelter and medicine, allowing the memory and culture of ethnobotany to flow and endure across the mountain.

This immersive plant experience is a special session uniquely designed for the exhibition. We are honoured to invite Chuen Lung villager Ms. Kwong Yuk-ying (Janney) to accompany participants on foot and via a dedicated shuttle bus from the lower to the upper hills. Together, we will tour the 10 large-scale photographs, admire and learn about the featured plants on-site, gain deeper insight into their botanical details, and discover how deeply they are woven into the fabric of the villagers' daily lives.

當泥土承載著逝去的歷史，藝術如何讓我們重新「看見」土地？

在 WMA 委約項目《方土誌》（Bones of Our Land）中，視覺及錄像藝術家潘子懷（Tsz Wai Pun）以詩意的流動影像與敘事，探索回憶與時間的流逝，重構了香港大帽山北坡一段塵封已久的歷史——2004 年的一場山火，意外讓荒廢數百年的古老茶梯田遺跡重見天日。

她與分子生態學家 Coşkun Güçlü 共同製作紀錄片《方土寸心》，細膩拼湊村民、前啹喀兵與學者的口述歷史；兩人更具創意地將泥土裏的微生物 DNA 代碼轉化為聲音，並結合 3D 模型與手繪立體場景，讓觀眾用視覺和聽覺體驗這片山嶺的「活檔案」。

而山火發生後，嘉道理農場暨植物園在大帽山逐步展開植樹與山林復修計劃，致力恢復原生生態。在這場線上講座中，子懷與 Coşkun 將與本園植物保育部主管 紀仕勳博士（Dr Stephan W. Gale）展開對談，串連藝術、歷史與生態學視角，一同探討森林復育與記憶的力量。

⛰️ Loving the Land Talk Series | Bones of Our Land: Cultivating Hope Through Ecological Restoration

When soil carries Earth's history and memory, how can art help us truly "see" the land?

In the WMA-commissioned project “Bones of Our Land”, artist and filmmaker Tsz Wai Pun uses moving images and storytelling to explore memory and the passing of time. This project unearths a forgotten history of Hong Kong's Tai Mo Shan, where a 2004 hill fire unexpectedly unveiled abandoned tea terraces dating back centuries.

Collaborating with molecular ecologist Coşkun Güçlü, she produced the documentary film Bones of Our Land, delicately piecing together oral histories from a villager, an ex-Gurkha soldier, and a local historian. Ingeniously, they also translated soil microbial DNA into sound. Paired with 3D models and hand-painted dioramas, these elements allow the audience to genuinely hear and witness the soil as a living archive.

Following that 2004 fire, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden gradually launched a tree-planting and forest restoration programme on the Tai Mo Shan slopes to rehabilitate the local ecology. In this online talk, Tsz Wai and Coşkun join Dr Stephan W. Gale, KFBG’s Head of Flora Conservation, for a dialogue intertwining art, history and ecology to explore the power of forest restoration and memory.

本園10月將舉辦「專業農務管理課程2026」，適合有意投身本地農業、都市農業的朋友參加。

本課程是本園今年度再生農業部的重點課程，課程橫跨五個月，教學時數達100小時以上。內容理論與實踐並重，以樸門及再生農耕為核心理念，配合現今本地農業的環境。此外，課堂亦會考察本地具代表的農業單位，學員會親嘗農產銷售體驗，將自己栽種的農作物，帶到市場中售賣。

本課程今年獲得香港交易所慈善基金資助，學費得以下調；具農務背景的合資格人士，更可申請30%至50%的課程費用減免資助。截止報名日期為2026年8月31日。

Professional Agricultural Management Course 2026

KFBG hosts the Professional Agricultural Management Course 2026 in October, suitable for those interested in joining the local agricultural or urban farming sectors.

As the flagship programme of Regenerative Agriculture Department this year, the course spans five months with over 100 teaching hours. The curriculum balances theory and practice, featuring permaculture and regenerative farming as core principles adapted to the current local farming environment. In addition, participants will visit representative local agricultural units and gain hands-on produce sales experience by bringing their own harvested crops to sell at the market.

Thanks to funding from the HKEX Foundation this year, tuition fees have been reduced. Furthermore, eligible applicants with a background in agriculture can apply for a 30% to 50% course fee subsidy. The deadline for registration is 31 August, 2026.

本園與海南野生動植物保護管理局、海口畓榃濕地研究所等相關機構組成的聯合團隊，正式在海南三亞市確認到國家二級重點保護動物——亞洲小爪水獺（Aonyx cinereus）的分佈記錄。

亞洲小爪水獺曾廣泛分佈於中國西南及華南地區，然而自2000年起，全國僅雲南省西雙版納、德宏以及海南陵水三地有過確切記錄；其保育現狀較歐亞水獺更為嚴峻。此次三亞的新發現，不僅更新其已知分布範圍，為這全國極危物種的保育帶來新希望，同時印證了海南熱帶雨林國家公園週邊的低海拔森林依然蘊藏著不容忽視的生物多樣性及保育價值。

Asian Small-clawed Otter Found in Sanya for First Time

A joint team from KFBG, Hainan Wildlife Conservation and Management Bureau, Haikou Duotan Wetland Research Institute and other relevant organisations has officially confirmed the distribution record of the Class II State Key Protected Asian Small-clawed Otter (Aonyx cinereus) in Sanya City, Hainan Province, greatly expanding the species' known distribution in China and representing a hopeful sign for this nationally critically endangered species.

Historically widespread across Southwest and South China, the Asian Small-clawed Otter has, since 2000, been reported only sporadically in three locations nationwide: Dehong and Xishuangbanna of Yunnan Province, as well as Lingshui in Hainan Province. Its conservation status is even more critical than that of the Eurasian Otter. 為慶祝嘉道理農場暨植物園（KFBG）成立 70 週年之際，我們特別創作了一幅《嘉道理萬物圖》。這幅巨型插畫如同一幅流動的歲月圖譜，細膩地描繪了無數關於人與自然、物種與土地共同編織的故事。我們誠邀你親身來到本園，細看圖象，尋找那些被歲月埋藏的痕跡。

你可透過三項特別策劃的體驗探索 KFBG，包括「喚醒記憶：大帽山的民族植物故事」展覽、適合一家大小參與的夏日自助遊，以及「從荒蕪到豐饒：喚醒記憶的七十年」特別展覽及古蹟路徑，重訪散落於園內各處的重要地方與故事。

To celebrate our 70th anniversary, a richly detailed landscape illustration of KFBG has been created for display. Like a flowing tapestry of time, this large-scale artwork gently brings together stories of people and nature, of species and land, woven across the decades. We warmly invite you to take a closer look and uncover the traces hidden within.

📍 Guided Tour Stories: When you meet our on-site volunteers near the exhibition area, feel free to listen to their guided stories!
🃏 Join the : Draw cards, match them and answer questions within the time limit.
🎁 Get Rewarded: Complete the challenge to receive a limited-edition souvenir! (Available on a first-come, first-served basis)

This summer, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden invites you to celebrate our 70th anniversary with free admission by registration from now until 14 September.

Discover KFBG through three specially curated experiences: Awakening of Memory: Ethnobotanical Stories of Tai Mo Shan exhibition, a family-friendly self-guided summer tour, and KFBG 70th Anniversary: A Journey of Awakening and Discovery special exhibition and heritage walk that revisits meaningful places and stories across KFBG.
