In a world that often feels increasingly hostile, divided, and uncertain, spaces of solidarity matter more than ever.

2025 was a year of change for Wave. We started the year with an entirely new team of coordinators and board members, while navigating new challenges and an ever-changing reality in Thessaloniki. Through it all, one thing stayed the same: our commitment to keeping our doors open to everyone, and adapting to the needs of the communities who walk through them every day.

Our Annual Report isn’t just a collection of numbers and milestones. It’s a snapshot of the community we’ve built together: a place rooted in solidarity, mutual support, and the belief that another way of living together is possible.

Thank you to everyone who stood with us this year: our community, volunteers, coordinators, board, donors, and supporters. This report belongs to all of you.

This month, we…
🍽️ Served 2,431 hot meals
👖 Distributed 455 clothing items
🚿 Ran 168 showers
🧺 Washed 88 loads of laundry
📱 Charged 164 phones and devices
🧼 Distributed 76 hygiene packages

We still see less people coming to the community centre this month - around 70-100 each opening day - but with the heat demands for showers and laundry services have gone up. As the numbers are lower we are able to provide everyone with two portions of food as we know people staying in surrounding camps only get one meal a day.

But beyond the numbers we laughed, we cooked, we played games, and we passed the month together, in community. Follow us for more monthly updates!

Today is World Refugee Day, and this year’s selected theme is “courage”. We want to remind everybody that nobody should need to be courageous to cross borders to seek safety and opportunity. Many of us don’t have to be, and that’s simply because of our passport, where we were born and the colour of our skin.

But in a world where borders are becoming more militarised, where hate is easier to reach for than love, and where politicians put profit over people, some are forced to be courageous when they should not have to be.

Today we extend our solidarity to all of our community - not just those deemed to be “refugees - who show us that courage every day.

Want to come and chop vegetables, clean showers, cook delicious meals, try tasty food and, most importantly of all, stand in solidarity with our communities?

Our project can’t run without a dedicated team of volunteers, and this summer we are short on people. Follow the link in our bio to sign up and help us keep running over the difficult summer months, as temperatures rise and a safe space to shower, cool off and clean clothes becomes even more important!

As always though, there’s so much more to tell each month than just the numbers. In May we saw a drop in the number of visitors to our community centre, largely because of the start of seasonal jobs in hospitality and agriculture and because of a mass transfer of people from Diavata to Larissa camp.

Still, as temperatures rise we see an increased need for sanitation services like laundry and showers. To respond to this we also managed to do a dedicated distribution of hygiene packages.

A huge thank you to the wonderful students of Pinewood American International School for once again organising a donation of food, hygiene items and toys to Wave!

Thank you to all of the parents who donated and to the teachers for supporting the drive.... but most importantly, to the 3 young students who planned and implemented it all. This is what solidarity looks like!

♟️🏓🐸 Games are becoming an increasingly central part of our community centre. A lot of people in and around Thessaloniki don’t have a safe space where they can hang out and relax - and that’s where Wave comes in. From chess to ping pong to jenga to dominoes, we’d be lying if we said it doesn’t get competitive sometimes!
