A huge thank you to the wonderful students of Pinewood American International School for once again organising a donation of food, hygiene items and toys to Wave!

Thank you to all of the parents who donated and to the teachers for supporting the drive.... but most importantly, to the 3 young students who planned and implemented it all. This is what solidarity looks like!

A lot of people in and around Thessaloniki don’t have a safe space where they can hang out and relax - and that’s where Wave comes in. From chess to ping pong to jenga to dominoes, we’d be lying if we said it doesn’t get competitive sometimes!

Behind the numbers there’s always a more complex story - our numbers in April stayed high with 100-150 people visiting on our opening days. As the days get warmer we are also seeing increased demand for hygiene items, showers and laundry services.

Unfortunately, due to a serious shortage of volunteers, we had to close for a few days as we didn’t have the minimum number of people required to open the community centre. But so many people have stepped in to make sure those closure days were as few as possible - friends, partner organisations, and of course the community themselves. We couldn’t be more grateful!

Six years ago this Facebook post launched Wave, and it’s safe to say we had no idea that this is where we would end up.

From outdoor distributions in take away containers to a safe space that welcome hundreds of people every week for food, showers, electricity, computers, and so much more - Wave has always been built by the people who walk through our doors.

To everyone who volunteered, donated, collaborated, trusted us, shared meals, fixed things, carried boxes, made coffee, listened, laughed, and kept this space alive: this is yours.

In a time where borders grow harder, inequality deepens and systems become more hostile, community care remains radical and necessary.

Happy 6th Birthday, Wave. Here’s to many more together!

But beyond the numbers… we celebrated Eid together in style, having cooked delicious special meals, sweet treats and yummy juices throughout the holy month of Ramadan thanks to all your generous support.

Our numbers climbed, with an average of 140 people attending our community centre every opening day.

We gathered, as a team and a board with some of us meeting in person for the first time, to define our strategic priorities for the coming years and consolidate our mission and our vision.

Wave has been, and will always be, a safe space for people with nowhere else to go.
