This Saturday (13th) is our June volunteer morning. Despite there being people away on holiday and RHS visitors to Browick Road Orchard on the same morning we are still going ahead, so if you fancy a few light tasks and a brew do come along.

We will be here in the long grass of the orchard from 10-12. Please bring suitable clothing (who knows what the weather has in store) and a pair of gloves.

We think these caterpillars may be small eggar moths? Once they were common but are now scarcer, due mainly to the gradual destruction of their favourite habitat, hedgerows. They do have colonies in Norfolk. The adults, which fly in February and March, are seldom seen, but the larvae can be found in silken webs on the foodplant, hawthorn and blackthorn.

Alternatively, they might be ermine moth caterpillars, which also live in webs on blackthorn and are not as scarce.

Whatever species they are it is good to see the Lizard's hedgerows supporting them.

Trustee Jeannie says "Hope you are well and ready for another volunteer morning on the Lizard (Saturday 9th May) - 10.00-12.00). It looks to be slightly warmer and sunny so come and admire all the blossom and have a cuppa.

Jobs to do include cutting/ digging out the blackthorn* around the oak where the tower used to be and attempting to dig out the triffid thistles around the benches.

Please bring your gloves and if you have a spade/fork extras would be useful.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday."

(*note: no hedgerows/bird nesting areas will be touched)

๐ŸŒฟ Could you help shape the future of The Lizard? ๐ŸŒฟ

The Lizard Charity is looking for new Trustees to join our friendly team.

We care for over 40 acres of beautiful, natural countryside in Wymondham โ€” protecting it, improving it, and ensuring it remains a place for everyone to enjoy, now and for generations to come.

๐Ÿ’š As a Trustee, youโ€™ll help guide the charity, make decisions about the land we manage, and support projects that benefit the whole community.

You donโ€™t need to be an expert โ€” just someone who:

โœ” Cares about local green spaces
โœ” Wants to make a positive difference
โœ” Can spare a little time for our meetings (3 times a year) and help behind the scenes

๐ŸŒฑ Whether your background is in finance, conservation, community workโ€”or something completely differentโ€”weโ€™d love to hear from you.

๐Ÿ“ฉ Want to find out more? Email our Clerk: [email protected].

Help us keep The Lizard a special place for Wymondham ๐Ÿ’š

March volunteer morning this Saturday 14th. That's come around quickly!

We have a variety of jobs this month from bulb planting, clearing bracken from young trees and maybe some trimming back of brambles. It looks to be fine weather though a little colder than of late. Please bring your gloves and warm clothes and if you have a trowel for bulb planting that would be a bonus.

Hoping to see you in the orchard around 10am for however long you can spare; refreshments at 11am and finishing off at midday.
