Our new Link to Hope Shoeboxes have finally arrived :-) We are very happy and they look great. However they now need to be wrapped up and sent out, so Kristina and I had a workout trying to pack and wrap the first lot of orders that have been placed.
Hopefully we might have a bit more help next week and we can get the rest of the orders out to our lovely supporters. So happy to see our mini dream of having our own shoeboxes become a reality.

If you would like to place an order for these new flat packed shoeboxes here is the link

And remember you don't need to order these boxes, they are just for people who struggle to get hold of their own shoeboxes or find this to be a convenient option if they produce alot of shoeboxes.

We had our annual visit from some of the Sussex Volunteer Crafters. Mel and Gypsy (who made or donated the majority of the items) visited our head office with Shoebox Gifts.

These included hats, gloves, blankets, toys, stationery items, sewing kits, jewellery bags, watches, toy cars, hankies, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs - the list goes on. Plus some lovely hand made items were amongst the haul so we thought we would post some of them.

A huge thank you to everyone that contributed and a very special thank you to Gypsy for all the hard work you put into gathering and also handmaking some of the gifts. Wonderful.

At 82 years old, Ana still lives alone.

When our team visited Moldova, we met Ana, a retired medic who remembered treating our project leader when he was a young boy.

Despite her age, Ana was still chopping wood for her fire and doing her best to remain independent. Her daughter had moved away, leaving Ana to face the challenges of old age largely on her own.

When she received her shoebox, it wasn't just the gifts inside that mattered. It was the reminder that someone, somewhere, had thought about her.

For many elderly people like Ana, a shoebox brings warmth, practical items, treats, and most importantly, the knowledge that they have not been forgotten.

A bit late but 1st June was Children’s day in Moldova. If you remember last year, Pastor Slavic and some of the young people from the village ran to the Romanian border and back. This was to raise funds for the children’s playground that badly needed repairing.

Skip forward a year and with the playground fully repaired here are some photos from Monday when all the children of the village-and parents-were invited to the playground to celebrate. Thank you to everyone that supported Slavics run last year.

Time to think about gifts for the elderly to put into your shoeboxes. There are lots of wonderful gift ideas ranging from mugs, spoons, cutlery, scarves, DIY tools, belts, sweets/chocolate, reading glasses, pens and paper, note pads, lavender bags, sensory items, small games, dominoes etc.

Please try to make your gifts as lovely as possible because so many elderly live on their own and it seems to mean so much more when the shoeboxes are received. And as gender neutral as possible please ie items suitable for both sexes as much as possible. People are very good at swapping items if its not entirely suitable for them.

People are asking us if they can put soap in their shoeboxes - YES of course you can. Along with shampoo and shower gel and other similar items. Soap is extremely important and along with a flannel is one of the six core items we ask for in every shoebox.

You did it! Online form now ready for supporters to order their Link to Hope Flat Packed Shoeboxes. As mentioned before you don't have to buy these boxes, its just offering people an option who struggle to find shoeboxes to use. Thank you to everyone that gave so generously to make this happen. We’ve decided that combs definitely count as Toiletries Month :-).

This comb might be a little big for this little boy, but we’re sure there’s a parent or family member who will make good use of it too. They’re also such an easy item to slide down the side of a shoebox — an extra thoughtful gift that takes up hardly any room at all.

And for the crafters amongst you, you could even make a little fabric cover or pouch for it to slide into and make it extra special.

Jackie C has managed to combine crafting month with toiletries month. These handmade purses contain individual soaps as gift items for family and elderly shoeboxes. That's two gifts in one. There were lots of other purses in the box including items such as jewellery, scarves and finger puppets. Beautifully made and incredibly creative. Thank you.
