We continue with our theme of toys and games for September and the Shoebox Appeal. Toys cars, hot wheels, die cast models, racing cars - or anything similar - are always a hit. They can also be played with for hours. This can be a very inexpensive gift to put in your shoebox and charity shops are a great place to buy them. Please make sure they 'look' new even if they aren't.

We delivered a shoebox to a family living in an old tool shed in Romania. It had no running water, heating or any amenities and was made from sheets of corrugated steel. We gave them shoeboxes and their 14-year-old son discovered a calculator inside. He was so pleased with it that he immediately had to keep it out of the clutches of his younger brother!

Both boys were attending school and, despite the family's incredibly difficult circumstances, their parents were determined that they should keep their school places.

A calculator. Pens. Pencils. Notebooks. Rulers. They may seem like ordinary things to us, but put them in a Family Shoebox and they can become genuinely useful gifts. What could you add to your box?

If you’re a Link to Hope supporter living near Hitchin (Hertfordshire), Ferndown (Dorset), West Wickham (Kent) or Ferring (West Sussex), we’re coming your way this September!

From 16th–19th September, we’re delighted to welcome Slavic Duman, our Project Manager from Moldova, to the UK for a special series of evenings entitled From Shoeboxes to Changed Lives.

Slavic manages several of Link to Hope’s education and social care projects in Moldova and works directly with the communities that receive your shoeboxes. He’ll be sharing first-hand stories about the people he meets, the challenges they face and, most importantly, the difference your shoeboxes and support make long after they are delivered.

The tickets are £10 and include a meal. Please go to our website www.linktohope.co.uk and under EVENTS you can book your tickets for your nearest location.

Impossible to imagine the cold at the moment but when your shoeboxes are given out in Winter is can be extremely cold.

We visited one house and knocked but nothing happened. Eventually an elderly man emerged. He had stayed in bed simply because it was warmer there. His home was freezing cold. Yet when we handed him a shoebox, his whole expression changed. Hope had just walked through his front door.

No one should have to spend Winter alone. Thank you for helping us bring warmth, kindness and hope to people like him.

For July we are promoting Mens Gifts as part of the Family & Elderly Shoebox Appeal. Time and again we have seen an atmosphere transform when a gift is found inside a shoebox for a dad or grand dad. Some men find it very difficult that an outsider is giving gifts to their children that they can't provide, but when they realise the gift is for the whole family then it becomes a gift from one family to another.

Do think about the men and grandfathers when you think of gifts to put in your shoeboxes. To register https://linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-appeal-2026/shoebox-registration-2026/
