WT is a leading amateur theatre company staging 8+ productions each year at our own 160 seat theatre. It is a local gem for all Wokingham residents to enjoy.

Wokingham Theatre (WT) is one of the longest-running community theatre groups in the Berkshire area. Formed in 1947, the group moved to their current location in 1986. Hidden away next to the Cantley House Hotel on the outskirts of the town, WT puts on eight full-length productions a year of outstanding quality that belies the ‘am-dram’ tag. On each performance night, up to sixty people can have been involved in getting the show on its feet. From directing to designing stage sets, from on-stage to behind the scenes and even running the bar in the interval, WT is a thriving amateur group with over two hundred members making it a centre of creativity for young and old, veterans and beginners. We have an annual audience attendance figure of over eleven thousand people.

Years after the fall of a brutal regime, Paulina lives a quiet, fragile existence with her husband Gerardo, a human rights lawyer tasked with uncovering the truth about past atrocities. But the past is closer than either of them realise. When a stranger arrives to their remote beach house unexpectedly one night, Paulina is certain she recognises his voice as that of her captor’s. Convinced this man is responsible for her torture, she takes justice into her own hands…

We now turn our sights to the next show coming to Wokingham Theatre, Ariel Dorfman's modern classic, Death and the Maiden, from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 November.

💬 “No play casts a longer shadow across international theatre" The New York Times
💬 “A highly nuanced thriller, filled with moral dilemmas about justice and revenge” Everything Theatre

Premiering at the Royal Court in 1991, this superb play remains as urgent and electrifying as ever. Atense, psychological thriller where every word carries weight, and silence can be just as dangerous.

This is the first of our STUDIO NIGHT performances, so the show starts at 8.30 and tickets cost just £12.

Don’t be fooled by the set in the photo, Wokingham.Today have had a sneak preview of Death and the Maiden, a Studio Night extra that will be opening on our stage in a few weeks. Thanks so much for this marvellous article 💙

This is a new format of show for us; later start, something a bit experimental, and presented in a ‘black box’ set, but it still has the same high performance values we pride ourselves on.
