One Planet Wincanton

So Lucy, Mike, Victorya & I finished the job in the Picnic Park today, closely observed by Schnuff, sowing and treading in a wild flower seed mixture including a good amount of yellow rattle seed. Now we just have to wait and hope that conditions over the winter help them to germinate. Have a look next spring to see if we've been successful.

You may remember that we sowed wild flower seed in the Picnic Park last year and early this year but conditions have been very challenging and we've had very poor results. We're going to have another go and today Simon Wiltshire of Blackhill Conservation kindly gave his time to rotavate the central bank for us. Because of the thick turf, this had much the same effect as scarifying would normally have and exposed bare soil for seed to germinate in. We'll now sow a general mixture of wild flower seed including yellow rattle seed and hope that we'll have more success. This has all been done with the permission of Wincanton Town Council and in collaboration with the WTC Works & Maintenance Team.

Don't miss this Saturday's Repair Cafe in the Balsam Centre!

Bring along your broken items, and our team of volunteers will do their best to get them working again. You'll be amazed at what they can fix!

This month's Repair Cafe is on at the same time as the Wild & Green Community Fair, so there's plenty to do at the Balsam Centre whilst you wait for your repairs.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED!

We need someone to distribute our Repair Cafe posters around Wincanton once a month to various shops etc. But no - you won't need to climb a ladder! You can do it all on foot and the shops etc. put them up themselves. We usually put out about 20-25 posters.

Our Repair Cafe saves 100's of kg of stuff from the waste system every year so you would be helping to promote this.

Please message us if you would like to help.
