Canford incinerator isn’t a temporary solution. If MVV win the planning appeal, it would operate 24/7 for 40 years.

That’s four decades of waste burning, traffic movements, air pollution, CO2 emissions and a 110 metre chimney on the edge of Canford Heath.

When making decisions like this, it’s worth asking what sort of Dorset we want in 2066.

Planning Inspector Visits Site!
Today local residents gathered outside the proposed Canford incinerator site with placards and banners as the Planning Inspector carried out a site inspection.

The Inspector, legal teams and witnesses drove past a visible reminder that opposition to this proposal remains strong across the area.

Site visits matter because seeing the location in person helps reveal what plans and maps cannot fully convey. The Canford incinerator proposal would impose a monstrous, belching eyesore adjacent to Canford Heath, close to homes, schools and businesses, burning waste including plastic 24/7 for 40 years.

What sort of future do we want, one that locks us into burning waste for the next 40 years or one that prioritises reducing waste, reusing materials and improving recycling.

What happens at Beddington, can happen at Canford 😳

Beddington is a ‘modern’ incinerator operating under the same regulations that the proposed Canford facility would be.

Yet Beddington has experienced fire, prolonged smouldering and 916 breaches of its permitted nitrogen oxide emissions limits. Nitrogen oxides are linked to respiratory and cardiovascular disease and harm nature and the environment.

No matter how advanced the technology or how experienced the operator, incinerators carry inherent operational risks.

Beddington shows that operators can never wholly prevent harm due to human error, equipment failure and hazardous materials in the waste

With the proposed Canford incinerator located close to Canford Heath’s internationally important wildlife habitat, as well as homes, schools and workplaces, we cannot sit idly by while these risks are casually ignored.

We stood outside with drums, voices and determination whilst a multinational company tries to overturn a democratic decision and push a polluting incinerator onto our communities.
