What a brilliant time our Guides and Rangers had this weekend at Girlguiding’s Big Gig at Wembley Arena! Scouting for Girls, JLS, The Wanted 2.0 and many more acts put in a great show!

Two wonderful weekends in September spent with some of our Gold Award Guides who were completing their guide camp permits. This is an incredibly hard challenge that requires them to lead, plan and deliver a weekend camp for a group of their guiding friends. From health and safety, activities and catering it all needs to be planned and executed in fine detail and our Guides did themselves proud! Weekend one was a murder mystery! Who killed Cynthia and very clever chain of activities gave alibis to all but one, who was revealed to be the murderer! Second weekend theme was Lights, Camera, Camp! This was all about performance, film and art and the weekend started with yoga, an excellent woodland movie trail, some spray painted t-shirt making, and character modelling. Skits followed inspired by INTOPs trips which had everyone in tears of laughter. Great memories were made! Well done to all of the guides involved!

Colehill Brownies and Rainbows have enjoyed an amazing day out today on Brownsea.
They worked towards the Brownsea Challenge badge, which included nature led mindfulness, den exploring, beach combing + understanding the history of the island. Followed by a special mement by the Scout Stone where our 2 amazing Young Leaders retook their promise as they begin their leadership journey.
Our day was finished nicely with icecream by the castle

Using your voice for the power of good, persisting with an idea until it’s heard and feeling the support of your community is something we aspire to do in Girlguiding but Colehill Guides have this week seen this become a reality after the Safe Places Scheme has been brought to life!

Back in Summer of 2023 the 2nd Colehill Guides took a bus trip to Poole as a part of their Navigator badge. When they got off the bus the Morebus driver told the Guides that if they ever felt unsafe in Poole they could knock on the door with the safe places sign and someone would help them. Just this simple advice sparked a mountain of discussion back in the unit with the Guides, about feeling safe and so investigations took place to see where the nearest safe space was in our community. We were shocked to find out there were none!

The Guides as a part of their take action badge wrote to the local council to share their strong views on why Wimborne and Colehill needed safe spaces too! Their comments included key reasons why they believed in the scheme. “It makes people feel safer, especially if something bad is happening in the area when you are there”
“Helps people feel more confident when out by themselves as sometimes you can feel unsafe when you are on your own”

Some time later a chance meeting between one of the Guide leaders and Andy Todd Local Councillor resulted in the matter being pushed back on to the agenda.

Many meetings and emails later and the scheme was given the go ahead and this week almost 3 years to the day of that Morebus trip taken by 2nd Colehill Guides, Wimborne Town Council have made it a reality.

Thanks to everyone involved it really shows us that your voices matter and we can come together to make our communities safer and happier places to be.

Safe Places creates a network of registered venues across the town where anyone who feels anxious, lost, vulnerable or overwhelmed can access support from a friendly face in a safe and welcoming environment.

It's a simple idea, but one that could make a real difference when someone needs help most.

Thank you to everyone who has helped bring this initiative to life, especially Wimborne Minster Town Council, Wimborne BID, Dorset Community Policing and the organisations already taking part, including The Streetlight Project, mydentist on Wimborne Road and Allendale House.

What a lovely Christmassy evening we had for our last meeting this term. Continuing Sheila’s tradition of singing at the local care home. 6 leaders and 15 guides and rangers shared a singalong of carols and then shared homemade gifts and lots of lovely conversation with the residence. I was so impressed with all of the girls who spoke to the residence with such interest and asked great questions about their lives. A lovely evening!
