Season opening times for each year will be pinned on our front page. Sometimes these do have to change at short notice due to lack of volunteer availability. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs cannot be brought into the Butterfly House, apart from Assistance Dogs, who are welcome. The glasshouse is wheelchair accessible. Last entry is 15 minutes before closing. We also h
ost additional events in the glasshouse on specific dates. Watch our page for news & full details of these. Victoria Park Butterfly House, Widnes, first opened in 2014 and is run entirely by unpaid volunteers. It costs around £2,000 just to purchase the tropical butterflies for each season and the Butterfly House has no source of funding. It is completely reliant on donations and volunteers giving us their time in order to stay open. Entry is free and members of the public who visit have the opportunity to give donations if they are able to. The adjacent Community Garden is an ecologically managed home for native butterflies and nature in our area of the North West. Both the Butterfly House and Garden are open during summer months and we have up to 10,000 visitors per season to this free community asset. We want to keep entry free and all donations from the public go to buying the pupae, feeding the butterflies and planting & repairing the butterfly environment. In winter the volunteers look after the plants, prepare for opening next season & fundraise to cover the cost of the butterflies and caring for their habitat. Please help us keep this restorative educational oasis in Widnes alive. If you would like to make a donation, or if you are interested in volunteering please do contact us on [email protected] for more information.
