🚨Less than 24 hours to go🚨

There is still time to support our River Lune Aquatic Species Assessments through The Big Give.

This project will fund three years of essential monitoring across the Lune catchment, tracking the condition of key indicator species in our rivers 💧

Every donation made before the deadline will be doubled, helping us generate the evidence needed to protect and restore river habitats for the future

‼️Donate to our Big Give appeal today‼️

By supporting this campaign, you will help deliver three years of essential river monitoring across the River Lune catchment.
This includes
• Annual fish surveys at 30 sites to track species presence and abundance
• Crayfish surveys at 4 sites to update records for this endangered native species
• Long term monitoring at sentinel sites to identify population trends
• New exploratory surveys to fill key data gaps across the catchment

This data will directly inform conservation planning, helping to identify priority areas for protection and restoration.

It will also strengthen understanding of how key species are responding to environmental change, ensuring future action is guided by robust scientific evidence.

Until 29th April, every donation will be doubled through The Big Give Green Earth Raise Fund – please visit the link below / in bio today to support us.

🚨Have you seen our Big Give campaign?🚨

We are improving understanding of river health across the River Lune catchment by generating robust data on key aquatic species.

This project will enable us to:
• Collect high quality fish population data across 30 sites each year
• Monitor White Clawed Crayfish at priority sites across the catchment
• Track long term ecological change through repeat sentinel site surveys

This evidence is essential for identifying where river systems are functioning well, where they are under pressure and where conservation action will have the greatest impact.

Until 29th April, your generosity through The Big Give Green Match Fund will be doubled up to £10,000, meaning your support can significantly increase the scale of this vital monitoring work.

Please donate today via The Big Give page and help us secure a healthier future for the River Lune 🦦

DONATIONS DOUBLED UNTIL 29th APRIL

We’re thrilled to have been accepted for The Big Give Green Earth Raise Fund 2026.

Through this appeal, we are supporting vital River Lune Aquatic Species Assessments that will directly inform how we understand, protect and restore river health across the catchment.

The River Lune is under increasing pressure from pollution, habitat loss and climate change, which has driven long term declines in key species, which are critical indicators of ecological condition and their presence reflects the overall health and resilience of the river system.

This project will deliver three years of structured scientific monitoring across the catchment, tracking fish and White Clawed Crayfish populations to identify where biodiversity is thriving and where urgent intervention is needed. This evidence will directly guide conservation action and strengthen recovery planning for the future of the river.

NEXT WEEK: Double your impact for nature!!

Heads up that we're taking part in the Big Give and every donation made between 22 and 29 April will be DOUBLED.

That's right just £10 from you will turn into £20 for us (and this little White Clawed Crayfish)
Meaning DOUBLE the impact!

👉 The target? £20,000 to take forward our aquatic species monitoring work in the River Lune Catchment.

This is all thanks to the 's campaign and some incredibly generous major donors. If you’re a supporter of our work – or wildlife in general – please get involved next month and make double the difference.

🌳 Volunteer Tree Planting Days 🌳

Whether you're a seasoned green thumb or just keen to learn something new, come and help us plant trees and support nature in our community!

We’re running two planting sessions and you’re welcome to attend one or both:

📅 Thursday 12th March
🎟️ https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1984047897671

📅 Saturday 14th March
🎟️ https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1984050922719

We’ll aim to spread the planting over both days, but if we get through the trees quickly the Saturday session may be cancelled.

☕ Hot drinks, biscuits, spades and gloves will be provided.

What to bring:
🧥 Waterproofs and layers (depending on the weather)
🥤 Drinks and any extra snacks
🪑 Sit mat if needed

📍 Exact location will be announced during the week of the event.
🚗 Parking is available approx. 100 metres from the planting site.

Cumbria Wide Catchment Partnership Meeting 2026

Last week we welcomed partners from across Cumbria to Lunesdale Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale for the 2026 Cumbria Wide Catchment Partnership Meeting - under the banner of the DEFRA funded "Catchment based Approach".

The day brought together organisations from across the region to share updates, explore new approaches to water governance, discuss future funding and delivery and strengthen collaboration across catchments.

We heard valuable insights from across the sector and discussed how we can continue to align our work to improve rivers, landscapes and communities across Cumbria.

The afternoon also included a wonderful guided walk with Kirkby Lonsdale CIC guides! We walked in the early spring sunshine to Ruskin’s View (recently re-opened) and Devil’s Bridge - giving us the chance to listen to the culture/history of the town and it's relationship with the river all whilst enjoying the very landscape we are all working to protect.

There is great value in collaboration at this scale and we look forward to continuing these partnership meetings and building on the momentum created at these events.

On Saturday, Trust Manager Tim and Project Officer Eleanor, spent the day as members of Team “Lune Salmon”.

In total, the team managed to fill and place 86 boxes of salmon eggs, all now safely secured in their chosen locations across four becks in the Upper Lune.

The sites were carefully selected as part of a wider project to understand what methods work best for increasing Salmon numbers - between both habitat restoration (large and small scale) and salmon ova planting.

One of the party may have taken an early “dip” but all left sodden after the rain blanketed the hills!

Thank you to Andy Hurst, Members of our board of trustees and Lune & Wyre Fishing Association 🐟
