The Welcome Kitchen - Whitley Bay

A free home cooked meal when you need it most - because good food and kindness should be available to all. Everyone welcome (age 16+).

Fighting hunger and isolation at the Coast The Welcome Kitchen was founded in 2024 by Julia and Shana in order to tackle hunger and isolation around where they live, in Whitley Bay, Cullercoats and surrounds. Julia previously lived in London where she was a chef, trainer of chefs and ran her own successful restaurant in South Kensington for 10 years before moving North to be near family. Shana lives in Cullercoats and has been involved with food industry on an informal basis for over 10 years, she owns Cullercoats Zen Bakery and volunteers at The People's Kitchen in Newcastle. Julia and Shana met at a Tai Chi class in Whitley Bay Yoga station and soon the idea of The Welcome Kitchen was born. When searching for suitable premises they were delighted when the kind folk at The Big Local said they would support the venture and could use the premises to host the meals.
