Friends of Prince Consort Gardens

Friends of Prince Consort Gardens FOPCG are a not-for-profit group formed in 2012. We garden on Saturday mornings from 10am. FOPCG were formed as a not-for-profit group in 2012.

We have a constitution, a committee, and members that are called ‘Friends’. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in assisting the group to achieve its aims and is willing to adhere to its constitution. A voluntary membership fee of £10 is payable to the Membership Secretary on signing their name to the official membership list. Friends can attend meetings and have voting rights on Comm

ittee elections and other general business. FOPCG volunteer time for gardening, liaise with North Somerset Council, and work for greater enhancements to the gardens. We also involve other community groups. We have a track record of achievements to the gardens that to date includes: securing Town Green status in 2013 to protect the gardens for generations to come; local and national awards including consecutive Green Flag Awards, Weston Civic Society Awards; significant re-building to the garden entrances; restoration of the Victorian shelter; and ongoing care for plants, habitat and wildlife. In 2018 we delivered a £12,000 project to convert a disused boating pond into a wildlife pond. In 2020 we received a HM Government grant from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund as part of a £10,000 project to rebuild a garden bed for use by a local service provider and those recovering from addictions. We welcome new volunteers and meet in the gardens at 10am Saturday mornings.

Quite a spectacle this morning and text book operation craning the bridge section into place. It feels like a significant milestone for Birnbeck Pier.

It's blowing a gale today, but work continues to prepare the new bridge section for lifting into place.
