This Halloween, we’ve got a treat worth celebrating…

Throughout October, our Fridge of Free Stuff saved an incredible 1221kg of food from going to landfill!

That’s 1221kg of perfectly good food given another chance instead of going to waste. Now that’s a treat, not a trick!

By sharing surplus food with our community, we’re helping reduce food waste, make the most of good food and create a more sustainable town.

A huge thank you to everyone who donates, collects and supports the Fridge of Free Stuff. Together, we’re making a real difference!

No tricks, just less waste! 🎃

Could you spare a little time to help keep our Community Fridge stocked?

We’re looking for more amazing volunteers to help collect surplus food from local supermarkets and bring it safely to our Community Fridge.

Whether you can volunteer regularly or just occasionally, every collection helps. You don’t need to be an expert — just a willingness to help and a little time to spare.

Together, we can make sure good food reaches people rather than going to waste. 🌱

Although the majority of food we receive is from supermarkets, we are able to accept donations from allotments and households too! 😊

However, we do ask that all packaged food is in good condition and within 2 days of its use by date.

We can accept homegrown produce 🥕 but you will be required to fill out a small form to confirm it's fresh and grown naturally without any pesticides/fertilisers. We can't accept any windfall fruit, frozen or cooked food.

Find out more here: https://issuu.com/hubbubuk/docs/we_can_accept_a4...

Community fridges are very different to food banks. The aim is to reduce food waste, so it is surplus food, rather than donations that we collect. We love that we are able to help those in need by providing a way to save money on food, but there is no referral or voucher necessary to use the fridge, all are welcome! ☺️

👻 HALLOWEEN ACTIVITY: Make Your Own Recycled Monster! 🎃

Looking for something spooky to do with the children this Halloween? Before you buy art supplies, have a look around the house and see what you can turn into a monster!

You could use:

📦 An empty cereal box
🧻 Toilet or kitchen roll tubes
🥚 Egg boxes
📰 Old newspapers or magazines
🫙 Empty food containers
🎁 Scraps of wrapping paper
🧶 Wool, string or ribbon
🧦 An odd sock
✏️ Pens, pencils or crayons

Then let the monster making begin!

1️⃣ Choose your container or cardboard as the monster's body.
2️⃣ Add eyes, teeth, ears, horns, arms or legs using whatever you can find.
3️⃣ Give your monster a name.
4️⃣ Decide what it eats... leftover socks? Lost pencils? Maybe even broccoli!
5️⃣ Give it a spooky personality.

BONUS CHALLENGE: Can you make your monster using only things that would otherwise have been thrown away or recycled?

We'd love to see your creations! Share a photo of your recycled monster in the comments. 👇 We have also provided you with some templates you could cut out and stick on!

No need to buy something new, sometimes the best activities are hiding in the recycling box!
