❗National Drowning Prevention Week

Sea Cadets take water safety seriously.

As part of our water safety training we help young people learn how to stay safe in and around the water.

🙌Here are some Top Tips to keep you safe around the water:

📌If you suddenly fall into cold water, try not to panic or swim hard straight away, especially if you’re not wearing a buoyancy aid.
💙Cold water shock can make you gasp and feel out of control for the first minute or two.
✅Instead, float on your back, keep your head tilted back with your ears in the water, and use your hands to help you stay afloat while you calm your breathing.
❗Once the shock has passed, call for help or swim to safety if you’re able to.

❗Remember: Float to Live – it could save your life.
Help keep your friends and family safe by sharing this message and talking about it together❗

We are raising funds towards our Powerboat Project which includes the purchase of a new XS500 RIB and associated equipment plus the training of Sea Cadets Wells Next the Sea adult volunteers so we can get more cadets out in the harbour. Thanks to a grant from the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund administered by Norfolk Community Foundation, the Ganges Association Wells War Memorial Institute Club2 and Wells & District Inshore Fishermen we have already raised over £18000 towards our £30000 target. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Sea Cadets Wells-next-the-Sea Unit is raising funds to purchase a new XS500 Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) for use as a safety boat and for developing our Cadets' and Adults' powerboating skills.

ITS NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS WEEK Thank you to our hard working and dedicated local adult volunteer uniformed & non-uniformed instructors, unit assistants and Trustees (past and present) for all you do for our Sea Cadets and Junior Sea Cadets.

For Volunteers’ Week 2026, we’d like to say thank you to all our incredible volunteers.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, commitment and passion you give to Sea Cadets every week.

Whether you’re instructing, supporting your unit behind the scenes, or helping cadets take part in new opportunities, you are making a real and lasting difference to young people’s lives.

As one parent shared recently, “it’s helped bring out the best in my children - we’re very grateful.”

On behalf of our cadets, thank you for your dedication, time and inspiration 💙

An afternoon on the water, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Some gentle exercise and gaining new skills whilst surrounded by nature and wildlife in a stunning setting with the sound of leather on willow (cricket!!) in the distance. Add to that our young people learning how to work together as a team and ………. NO SCREENS.
What a great way to spend an afternoon. I can highly recommend it.
