🚨 Live at Manvers Lake – Rescue Challenge Event! 🚨
On Tuesday 30th June: 9:30am - 3pm, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service will be hosting a UKRO multi-discipline rescue challenge at Manvers Lake – and the local community is welcome to come along and watch!

This exciting event brings together operational teams from across the UK to test their skills, share learning and support professional development through a series of realistic rescue scenarios on the water.

Expect to see crews tackling hands-on challenges involving boat handling, medical response and incident command, all in a live lake environment.

Invaluable knowledge on staying safe around open water.

We loved meeting more than 80 pupils from Hoyland Springwood Primary School at Manvers Lake.

We spoke about water safety- and gave them a chance to look around the fire engine!

Remember, if you find yourself in difficulty in water:

- Tilt your head back with your ears submerged

- Relax and try to breathe properly

- Move your hands and feet to help you stay afloat

- It's fine if your legs sink, we all float differently

- Practise floating in your local pool if you can

Struggling in the water? Float to Live.

18/06/2026

Remember the Water Safety Code: If you fall in, stay calm, float on your back and call for help.
Cold water shock can happen to anyone, even on a warm day. Your instinct might be to panic, but the best thing you can do is float.
🛟 Tilt your head back and keep your airway clear
🫁 Relax and focus on your breathing
🌊 Spread your arms and legs to stay balanced
🤲 Gently move your hands if needed
📞 Once calm, signal for help or swim to safety
If someone else is in trouble, don’t go in. Throw them something that floats.
