Rowans Hospice

Rowans Hospice Established since 1994, we support more than 1,000 patients and families across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire every year.

Rowans Hospice is a charity offering free specialist Hospice care and bereavement support across South East Hampshire including Waterlooville, Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Hayling Island. We provide our services free from discrimination and free of charge, but it costs £7.2million to continue our vital work, and we rely on charitable giving for 90% of this income.

We recently received a remarkable and unexpected historic donation at our warehouse in Farlington: a collection of items connected to the Rutland family of Belvoir Castle.

Among the donation were four antique handbags and tucked away inside one was a handwritten letter dated 5 April 1923. Written by Violet Rutland and addressed to “My Dear Elizabeth”, the letter offers a fascinating glimpse into the past.

The handbags themselves, believed to be more than 100 years old, showcase the craftsmanship, fashion and intricate detail of the period.

With 16 shops across our community and two online stores, we regularly receive incredible donations, but this is certainly one of the most intriguing discoveries we’ve come across.

This week, we would like to show our appreciation to Southern Steps UK for hosting their fantastic line dancing night in support of Rowans Hospice.

With live musicians and 19 different dances, the event was an incredible success, completely selling out with more than 150 attendees!

Thank you to everyone who came along, donated, and supported the raffle. In just one night, an amazing £572 was raised for the Hospice.

As Southern Steps UK said: “The aim of Southern Steps UK was to bring a community together through dance, and we achieved just that!” 🫶

A huge thank you to Southern Steps UK for organising such a wonderful event in aid of the Hospice and for bringing people together for an evening filled with fun, friendship, and fundraising. Your support means so much and will help us continue providing compassionate care to those who need it most.

This week marks Carers Week, a yearly campaign aiming to highlight the challenges faced by carers and recognise the outstanding contribution that unpaid carers make to their families, friends and communities. 💚

Our Living Well Services support carers in our community in a variety of ways, including mindfulness, complementary therapies, and creative workshops.

One of our many workshops is Expressive Writing, where we encourage carers to explore journaling as a simple but powerful form of self-care. Taking time to write can help process thoughts and emotions, reduce stress, and create space for reflection -offering a quiet moment to focus on your own wellbeing.

If you are caring for someone with a life-limiting illness and need support, pop to our Living Well Centre and find out how we can support you.
