In some cultures it is considered a sign of weakness to cry, especially in men.
Which is ridiculous, you see crying is a sign that you are alive and present. When babies are born, we look forward to that cry, which is a sign of relief.
My daughter would get quiet upset when her sibling took her toys, even if there are 7 better toys and I would wonder why she was crying, to me it was not a crying matter, just get another toy. But to her, the world was collapsing.
When people cry, do not invalidate their tears, pain because to you the issue is insignificant, to them it matters.
And just because I have experienced someone taking something that belongs to me and I DID NOT express the same emotions does not mean I get it. Saying you have been through the same thing as a way to tell them not to express themselves in that manner can be invalidating.
You might have been through something similar but certain factors and situations make it different.
Our societies are filled with people with invalidated emotion bottled up, which can lead to anger outbursts, rage and breakdowns. We need to break the cycle.
Ps my content are not because I have figured it all out, we are doing this thing called life together.
