Exciting news!!
We are very pleased to announce we have been awarded a £39,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to share and celebrate the heritage of Old Goole through a vibrant community parade, oral history project and creative community engagement programme, securing these stories for the future.
Old Goole is a place shaped by migration, industry and waterways, holding a rich but underrepresented heritage of working lives, community traditions and cultural exchange. Without this funding from the Heritage Fund, many of these stories—particularly those held in personal memory—could remain unheard and at risk of being lost.
In collaboration with The Moorlands Centre, Old Goole Gala Committee, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Goole Library and Museum, this project will bring together residents, schools, artists and volunteers to explore, record and creatively reimagine and celebrate Old Goole’s heritage. Including shared memories of Old Goole Gala and South Park. Together with the community, Edgelands Arts will record oral histories focused on migration and lived experience and volunteers will receive training in oral history interviewing techniques, building local skills and capacity.
